Dr. Recchi says Freddy's got a glass jaw but I hope he's back by the end of the week.

I heard Kapanen is playing tomorrow.

What happened to Leivo? Do the coaches hate him that much??

Greg Buttons was on Leafs Lunch yesterday ripping Kasperi Kapanen (he of a whole 20 years of age and 10 NHL games) saying he's "too inconsistent to be a full-time NHLer" and "a C prospect".

When POS mentioned he's a point-per-game player in the AHL which would indicate he's at least somewhat consistent Buttons said this (graphic there for added enjoyment):

Hey, it's only a 3 hour drive or so from Waterloo to Detroit. If he makes an early appearance and leaves by 12 he can even sneak in a pre-game nap!

Guys on 590 this morning spent a few minutes talking about Leivo and then started fretting about the expansion draft because, paraphrasing, "after you protect the big three on forward there definitely won't be room for Leivo and you'll have to trade him". They then went on about how even Tyler Bozak(!!) might be protected with those precious limited slots.

Anyway, those big 3 are obviously exempt and according to the Capfriendly tool by picking up Fehr the Leafs have more than enough exposed guys at F to protect Bozak, Leivo and whoever else they want to protect.

My list today would be:

Kadri
JVR
Bozak
Komarov
Brown
Leipsic
Leivo
Rielly
Gardiner
Carrick
Andy

Leafs appear to be one of the few teams with little to worry about.

For crying out loud Everett, you're asking someone something and there isn't a single question mark on the entire page.

By the way, he said during the INT that would be a 7 year deal.

Seems risky to me but, whatever. He could still get better. Or worse.

Assuming the 16-17 Zaitsev is basically what you get for 7 years at that price, do you like it?

Seems reasonable to me, and there is always LTIR to fall back on :heh:
I mean, compared with contracts guys like Danny Dekeyser and Andy Greene signed in recent years it's good value for money for a d-man pretty much in his prime. If in the long-term he's a second-pair guy rather than leading the team in ice time with a partner who's utterly unreliable defensively that makes him pretty good value.

It would be a lot better if it were 2 years shorter IMO but overall it's not terrible and, like you said, there's always Robidas Island to fall back on.

We will see what the playoffs bring, but I am liking that fact that #34 is still producing in crunch time. No disappearing act :thumb:

Same goes for all of the rookies
