Effin Oilers being terrible for a decade is the reason why we have the current cockamamie system.

Bettman continues to say that the NHL has great parity - Okay then, do away with the weighted draft lottery then and put the 14 non-playoff teams into a fishbowl and draw out the teams one-by-one. It would eliminate tanking for a high draft pick.

If the Canucks want defence, they should trade down. Given the concerns that have dropped Liljegren on most boards they're maybe likely to find him or any other RHD available at 15-20 as they are at 5.

I think Glass, Vilardi, Mittel etc. are better than the blue line options but the team may be thinking it's better to get a d-man in this draft rather than next year when they'll probably be back at 5th again considering d-men take longer to develop. In that case they should absolutely trade down.

and that this draft has some pretty decent options at C... take the pick and move on.

If D was the only (or biggest) barren spot I could see it, but this team needs to score more goals desperately
