Philly and Columbus are shitholes. Austin and LA are much better cities. Especially if you into software engineering. Same the Bay area.

Columbus is a better city than ann arbor. Actually it's not even close.

I'd argue that they're just different. Columbus is a huge city, Ann Arbor is not. Cbus has like 6 or 7 times the population. Ann Arbor is a great college town but doesn't have some of the things a larger city would have in it, like professional sports teams. The OSU campus is built within a larger city, Ann Arbor is built around the campus.

There are many places I like to vacation, and many of them are just for that - vacationing. I like going down to the coast of the Carolinas to vacation and golf, but I sure as shit don't want to live there year round. Montana and Wyoming have some amazingly beautiful scenic spots, and are underrated in terms of vacation destinations, but I'm not about to up and move there.

Back when I dated an OSU woman I went to visit her for a homecoming game. Saw the dotting of the I, etc. I also walked just a bit off campus by the Bechtel Plant? Builiding? and I was then in a very run down area. Of course, it has probably changed in 40 years.

Columbus is definitely a good city overall but nowhere near the best. Doesn't have massive booming industry. That article I read was a joke. I personally think an upcoming city like Charlotte is superior.

Columbus population has boomed, It's now the 15th largest city in the US. Charlotte isn't bad either. Both are up and comming cities.
