Good for Foster.

So are we not making any other coaching changes or are we just waiting till after the bowl game?

Good for Bud. Now I'd like to see TG get a nice bump in salary.

This. TG is probaby (probably, fuck, UNDOUBTEDLY) our best coach on staff. Far and away. Look at the players he's developed.

Does Bud even recruit? With all of the big names on D coming out of VA the last few years, I've been sorely disappointed with our haul. Don't get me wrong, I love all Hokies like my own family, so fuck those guys who went elsewhere and all, but we should have gotten at least one of those top-25 guys. Something doesn't add up.

Just my personal opinion, but I don't see Bud as much of a recruiter. Amazing at the X's and O's which we all know but I don't see him as the type to try and swoon a kid to his defense. From experience with a dad who was like that, either he wants you 100% to the program or not at all. It seems to have worked well for us overall. Big recruits or not, our defense continues to produce and keep us winning. Just struggled for a few years.

I got a question for 46 or anyone else that might have "insider" access. A buddy of mine and myself went to lunch today and ran into an older man (probably 70s or so) with a VT cap on. We're both alumni and this guy noticed we also had on VT gear so he struck up a brief conversation. We mostly talked about the season's ups and downs but at the end he asked us if we thought any coaching changes would be made. My friend said no and I said maybe a position coach or two. And then the man said some of his booster buddies said Whit is fielding HC candidates because Beamer's health is worse off than what's been reported. He wouldn't go into much detail other than to say the athletic department is working on a few things if Beamer can't go on. He made it sound like they may be waiting on a doctor's report or something. I wanted to talk more but he had to go and it kind of irked me that he dropped the most interesting part right there at the end before he left. I told my friend he's probably just fucking with us. But since we've got peeps here that know some stuff, is there any validity to any of that?

I've been suspecting this. Seems like the persistence of Beamer's not talking much was unexpected. Which is to say, it's plausible but I have no inside info to confirm/deny.

Might be why Foster seemed so emotional talking about CFB in his bowl game interview? :noidea:

Crazy thing you mentioned this. I headed up to DC to party for New Years with the wife and was at Clarendon Grill and had a VT hat on last night and some VT booster I met echoed the same thing. Take it with a grain of salt but I heard it may have not been benign is all I will say. Wish the best for him regardless. Partying is a biatch...

Bud Foster the highest paid assistant coach?

FOOTBALL | ASSISTANT | SALARIES | USA TODAY SPORTS

I think he will be this year (1.3mill) because of his base salary +his bonus/annuity. Going forward his new salary looks to be Top 10 amongst coordinators. Glad to see Whit has done what it takes to keep him around. He is crucial to the program's success the next few years. Glad to see AMO and TG getting bumps as well. They all deserve it.

Guess that puts all the speculation to bed then. I can live with no position coach changes so long as they got a stern talking to (I'm mostly talking offense here). Some of the mistakes with the presnap penalties, the nonsensical RB roulette wheel before all the injuries, refusing to bench Brewer during a game, and then finally giving Motley a shot and pulling him when he's moving the ball, are all just results of boneheaded coaching. Hopefully this was the year the ironed all that out and with more talent coming in and guys getting healthy, we'll all be much happier this time next year

Retirement huh?.....that contract O'Brian signed with UVA was insane.....a nice package to retire on. I wonder how many more UVA assistant will "retire" with London's tenure likely coming to an end this year.

So where do we find Moorehead's replacement?

My guess.. from high profile program, or someone who coached at a high profile program last year.

Look at the recent hiring history...
Loeffler = Auburn (SEC)
Grimes = Auburn (SEC)
Moorehead = Stanford (P12)
Searels = Texas (B12)
