Should be between Stotts and Quin Snyder. As much as I think Stotts is deserving, especially if the Blazers keep that 3rd spot in the West, what Snyder has done with the Jazz is amazing.

But of course it'll probably go to D'Antoni or Kerr or Pop.

There's a good chance it goes to Dantoni. Nobody expected Houston to win close to 65 games.

I would actually give it to Casey in Toronto.

I think it is 5 man race IMO

D'Antoni
Casey
Stotts
Stevens
Snyder

D'Antoni, Snyder, and Stotts all deserve it.

Stevens does too. And what about Spoelstra?
I think Stevens with what he gets out of his players. Doing well when you lose your new star the first game and no one would have believed Kyrie even knew what defense was.

Stevens and Boston have talent.

Quiet frankly I think it should go to Snyder at Utah. Who would have thought the Jazz would be remotely competitive this year given what they lost from last years team.

This is actually the best Coaching job I have ever seen out of Doc.

But, I'd go.....

Stotts, Snyder, Stevens, Casey, Trigger Mike....

In that order.

Most people had them as a playoffs contender....possibly sneaking in the playoffs.

Nobody thought Boston would be a top 2 in the East or top 4 in the league after Hayward went down in the season opener.

I would give it to Casey. Most people thought they would finish 4th or 5th in the East. Almost everyone had Boston, Cleveland, and Washington finishing ahead of them. Saw some preseason predictions with Milwaukee finishing ahead of them.

If you're not going to give a coach COY after his team finishes with 60+ wins after they were only projected to win 47 or 48 games then when can that coach every win COY?

For me, my ballot would look like this.

Casey
Stotts
D'Antoni
Snyder
Stevens

Exactly what I'm talking about and why I would give it to Casey. Jazz were projected to finish 6th in the West here and Raptors were projected to finish 5th in the East. Then in the 2nd link, Utah was at 8th in the West and Toronto was at 6th in the East. Nobody expected much from Toronto this year. Now they're likely going to finish with the 2nd best record in basketball

NBA preview: Projecting East and West from 1 to 15

Projected NBA standings: New playoff contenders, W-L records for all 30 teams

The reason I would seriously consider Quinn Snyder is because of how bad Utah were earlier this year. Basically the same reason why Spo was being considered last year. If Miami went 41-41 last year without the shitty 10-31 1st half then he wouldn't have been in the conversation for COY.

Just like Utah Snyder wouldn't be in the conversation much if Utah didn't start off 19-28.

Why would it go to Pop when is team is fighting to make the playoffs?

He wont win it. Others have done a better job.
But, this is arguably one of his better coaching efforts in years, in terms of Xs and Os.

POP lost a top player in the entire league. He is the #2 imo, but no worse than #5 in the NBA.
The entire team was carefully constructed to be a Kawhi support player roster.

Then he dealt with nonstop injuries to Green, Parker, Gasol, Anderson, Aldridge, and Gay.
They played exactly one game all season with the projected team roster.

They blew past the franchise injury hours lost record in February with 2 months to go.
If he makes the playoffs, it might be his best effort as a coach.

There are times when Lauverne, Forbes, and Bertans are being asked to carry the team.
Those dudes would struggle to find roster spots on the Hawks or Grizzlies....yet alone a playoff team.

Casey is the winner hands down
Not only are they on pace for 60 wins but he is developing players at the same time.

Toronto will do nothing in the playoffs, once again.
