It was getting late and the Cincinnati Bengals needed to get a bell cow running back into training camp. On July 31 the team re-signed free agent Cedric Benson to a one-year deal worth $3 million and another $2 million with incentives. According ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter, Cedric Benson has already earned $500,000 worth of incentives and if reaches the 1,100 yard rushing milestone, he'll earn another $250,000.

With 1,016 yards, Cedric Benson already has already earned a $500,000 incentive. He gets $250,000 more if he rushes for 84 yards Sunday.

Looking at the difference a REAL running back can make (Ray Rice anyone?) I hope we can find one of those for next season....Benson needs to be shown the door....

Ray Rice, Matt Forte, Peyton Hillis, and Marshawn Lynch are all free agents. I would be happy with any of them wearing stripes.

No way the Ravens are losing Rice, and also highly doubtful the Bears will lose Forte.....I'd love Lynch.....

When the Seahawks acquired Lynch from Buffalo last season, they also acquired the contract he signed as the 12th overall choice of the 2007 draft. That deal ran through 2012, but the final year voided. That means Lynch will hit the market this coming offseason unless the Seahawks use the franchise tag on him or the sides reach an agreement on a new deal.

I worry about signing a RB to a big FA deal. Lynch has been fantastic this year, but it's a contract year, and his running style will wear his body out quicker than others. I wouldn't sign more than a 2 year contract with him.

Running backs should NEVER be signed for more than two years, almost without exception.....all you have to do is look at what happened to Peterson this year, he may never be the same if he makes it back at all.....
