Cano to 1st base?

I just saw this which is funny because I had a dream last night we sent Healy to KC in a deal for Whit Merrifield and used him as our new CF.

I also thought Duffy was a possibility a couple months back and he has started pitching better of late.

I tried finding it but who were the Royals interested in giving up is my question on it.

Part of that is he seemingly swings at everything resulting in walking in 1 out of every 25 AB's... Just for example, Haniger walks 1 out of every 7 AB's... Healy won't ever be a productive hitter unless he an get his average up a bit to offset the low walk totals...

Or even easier. Take more walks

That article didn't say, but a Seattle writer wrote about...Merrifield being the guy they SHOULD target. He said KC has mentioned Merrifield in trade talks going back to last month. Make it happen!!!

you guys know more about baseball than me but wouldnt it maximize our lineup if we moved Cano back to 2nd and keep healy at first and move Gordon to CF? Instead of trying to trade for a CF?

sure, but if by some miracle they make a playoff Cano is useless. Also Dee is miles better at 2nd than Cano and probably below average for a CF

But if you trade healy and move cano to 1st then he will still be useless and we will have a hole at 1st? Unless you want to use Daniel Voglebach

nah, don't want that either. But the M's aren't winning anything this year, so might as well get Cano reps at his position for the back half of his contract.

That would maximize the most offensively likely but it would take away from things differently.

Even though a run scored on offense is the same as a run saved on defense technically, the runs scored portion is hard to come by lately and is probably worth sacrificing the defense.

With how the staff as a whole is right now, the defense is slightly more important IMO. Innings are eventually going to catch when the GM and Manager are heavily into stats.

Cano may not be available for the postseason but if they do deal Healy to upgrade the staff or CF they can still deal for a guy to play 1B at the waiver deadline for when the rosters expand.

The Mariners have put themselves is a crappy spot where they don't have any prospects that they can trade for anything to truly help unless they take on a huge salary. I personally wouldn't touch dealing any top guy for a chase for a WC game. If they were a legitimate WS contender ok, but don't hamstring your organization even further by ridding your only valuable assets.

It's why I can't put too much stock in what a GM says. He is paid to lie, just like how Andrew Moore struggled in spring so was going to Tacoma to work on things but is a part of the Mariners future rotation. Or that Juan Nicassio is an 8th inning bullpen arm

now losing 11 of 16...they could really use cano..the real cano..not the guy we saw at the begining of the season

and i was jumping on cano as bad or worse than anyone..so maybe i should join the i told you so thread..for that


but milwalkee has just DFA'd brad miller...just the guy the mariners need till cano comes back and,to replace romine..

if they dont trade for miller..my confidence in them will take a beating as well...aaahh well

I wouldn't mind it if he platooned between 1st and 3rd giving Healy and Seager breaks. But in reality, his presence will just be a distraction because if the M's did make a wild card he's history anyway. Honestly, I just can't get excited at all about Cano coming back-his selfish ego screwed this team over this season.

In reality. You are gonna take the hit on defense somewhere if Cano is in the lineup. And with that way things are going you need to try maximize the offense in your lineup. Some days that might be Cano and Seagar and other days it might be Cano and Healy depending on the matchups

works for me...i think seager needs days off sometimes..against pitchers that he does not hit well for sure

thing.... is healy and cano are an upgade over romine...with a bat at least..but vincej can play D as well so........idk on romine
