Indiana is a weird "blue blood". They had a good run in the mid 40s-early 50s and a great run mid 70s to mid 80s. Other than that they're really a pretty standard college basketball program. I think expectations are probably too high. Over the last 30 years Indiana is probably the 6th or 7th best program in its own league. Certainly behind MSU, OSU, Wisconsin, Maryland and Michigan. Probably behind Illinois too but that's debatable. I thinl 30 years is a large enough time span to say that IU may no longer be at that elite level

Indiana doesn't operate on the same level of UK, Duke, UNC, and Kansas and they haven't for many years.

That said, with the level of recruits they get, they should be getting significantly better results. He probably gets a couple of more years to get to a Final 4 or at least the Elite 8.

Yep. Indiana is basically Ohio St without as much recent success. Not sure why they always get lumped in with the group you mentioned. IU is closer to Georgetown and Houston historically than they are Kansas or UCLA

Crean is already looking for a soft landing spot, like Missouri. The writing is on the wall for him, the fanbase is fed up for two reasons, he's not winning with consistency, and he isn't recruiting enough players from Indiana.

That being said, the Indiana AD seems to really like Crean and is obviously hesitant in firing him. I think Crean leaves on his own in a mutual decision.
It is crazy how much Hoosier talent comes up here.

I think IU is about halfway been Georgetown and Kansas. Probably closer to GU (as you said) than they are to KU.

Indiana:
5 National Titles
8 FF's
39 Tournament Apperances

Georgetown:
1 National Title
5 FF's
30 Tournament Appearances

Kansas:
3 National Titles
14 FF's
46 Tournament Appearances

You think? Outside of his run with D Wade to the Final Four several years ago, the guy has completely underachieved in my opinion.
He's a Harbaugh though. He'll get a job.

So, I'm no fan of Indiana but with that university being a "blue blood" program of college basketball, one would have to think his pink slip is coming soon. Right?

Same with the last coach that Illinois hired. Groce has been a major disappointment. He is gone and the rumor is they are willin g the go 5 years $25 mil for their next coach.

After the 1994 season, the blue bloods stacked up like this:

Indiana:
5 National Titles
7 Final fours
10 Elite 8's
18 Sweet 16's
23 Tournament Apperances

North Carolina
3 National Titles
11 Final Fours
16 Elite 8's
20 Sweet 16's
28 Tournament Appearances

Duke
2 National Titles
11 Final Fours
13 Elite 8's
14 Sweet 16's
19 Tournament Appearances

Kansas
2 National Titles
10 Final Fours
13 Elite 8's
15 Sweet 16's
23 Tournament Appearances

Kentucky
5 National Titles
10 Final Fours
24 Elite 8's
27 Sweet 16's
36 Tournament Appearances

UCLA
10 National Titles
13 (14*) Final Fours
16 (17*) Elite 8's
21 (22*) Sweet 16's
29 (30*) Tournament Appearances

Indiana belonged with this group in 1994. I think including them with this group in 2017 is an outdated opinion. Still a great tradition, but they've struggled (relatively speaking, of course) since 1994. 1 FF, 1 E8, 4 S16's, 3 conference regular season titles. They've never won the Big Ten tournament.

I actually thought Crean might have been a decent fit for NC State. However, that is before I knew that Crean has family ties to Mark Gottfried.

Yeah I mean the titles hold a lot of weight. I get that but it's not like the Hoosier make consistent deep runs. They've been in what 1 E8 in like 25 years? Don't get me wrong it's a good program but it's not elite. They happened to come into prominence as CBB was reaching the point of a popularity boom in the 70s and 80s so some still think of them as elite. They're just not

See my 2nd post. They were clearly a blue blood 20 years ago. Today? Not so much

Indiana Basketball is a lot like Nebraska football.

That's actually a great comparison although Nebraska was far better over a longer period of time than IU basketball . Very similar notions of tge 2 though

Color me stupid but I don't see where your numbers are adding up regarding the National Championships.

For example, UK has won 3 National Championships since 1994 not 5 (but a total of 8 overall)

UCLA has won 1 National Championship since 1994... so again, maybe I'm missing something.

Indiana is a basketball state but it is a white basketball state and that does not cut it in this age of black dominated basketball. Until they come around they will not be anything exceptional.

My numbers were from 1939-1994. Anything after 1994 wasn't included in my post.
