My projected OOC record for the B1G: 32-10(6-8 vs. P5)

The losses:

Maryland at Texas
Rutgers vs. Washington
Indiana at Virginia
Michigan State vs. Notre Dame
Purdue vs. Louisville
Purdue at Missouri
Nebraska at Oregon
Minnesota at Oregon State
Just curious eric, what is your thinking on these two? Road trips?

Not that either is a hostile environment, but I do think playing on the road will be a factor, especially going to Oregon State, which is way out the normal comfort zone for a B1G team.

For IU, they are breaking in a new staff(one that I think will be a downgrade). Also playing Ohio State the week before, is going to negatively affect this game. No matter the outcome of that Ohio State game, there's going to be a letdown. And I think UVA takes a step forward in year number 2 under Mendenhall. I think he's a pretty good coach.

For Minnesota, the main thing is going on the road. The game was relatively close last year, and Minnesota loses half their starters including their QB. As well as bringing in a new coach and new system, which could take some time. My guess is this game is about a pick em whenever the line comes out. Wouldn't surprise me to see Oregon State favored either.

I will say one thing about ranking SOS, naturally a crappy team in a tough division will usually bring down everyone elses SOS, while simultainiously the crappy teams SOS is higher because they don't get to play them-self. So while a team may have a higher SOS, it is hard to always throw a ton of stock into SOS within a specific division.

ericd pretty well summed it up. Putting it simply: Oregon St. should have beat us in our own stadium last season. Now everything is going against us--new coach, new QB, etc. If Oregon St. loses to us they might be in for a season where they'd lose to Delaware St.

Or, if a team wins, their SOS gets worse automatically because opponent has a loss.

Defeating an opponent should have no impact on your own SOS.

Nebraska had a schedule strength in the low 100's to get them to 7-0. That certainly is enough to have them ranked(like I did), but for them to be ranked 7th was simply overrating them at that point, especially when they weren't overly impressive in their wins. And yes the game against Wisconsin was a "good" loss. I didn't downgrade them for it, I actually bumped them up in my rankings. Even in a loss that was there most impressive performance up to that point IMO.

Like I said earlier, Lee could turn out to be really good, I don't think he will be, and I think Oregon will beat Nebraska next season. Could be wrong on both, but there's evidence to suggest it could happen. I happen to think Oregon upgraded their coaching staff, especially defensively.

Notre Dame was overrated, no doubt about it.
I understand your position on Lee just looking at stats. However, taking into account his awful team and the fact that he was a freshman (and subsequently fought through injuries his sophomore year because he got no help) in addition to all the scouts talking about him taking some huge strides, I think he can be pretty good. That said, we don't really even need "good" at this point, just not awful. This offense can thrive with a game manager, someone who can find the open guy and hang onto the ball. We haven't had that for years. Hell, we would have beaten Wisconsin last year if Armstrong could have just hit open guys. There were several plays throughout the year that changed games because he couldn't make the simple play. That's what we need at this point.
