Miami wanted to trade for him for a bit so it’ll be interesting if he ends up there

These reports always make me . Was Denver asking for too much? Why not just trade him for a 7th.
I guess it's possible Elway asked CJ if he wanted to go to Miami and he said no, so as a favor they let him go the FA route.

I think Miami backed out from what I can gather thinking maybe CJ gets released? Cdum could probably give you a better idea.

Something odd was going on in Miami surrounding Juwan James. Talk was they were done with him and wanted to move on, but suddenly they did a 180. My guess is, after evaluating the T market and looking at the draft, they realized it wasn't worth trying to replace him with all the RB talent available in the draft. Also, they may have been hedging on Denver cutting him, and here we are.

Fair, but wouldn't a 7th to Denver be a better to secure CJ rather than giving CJ the option of talking to every interested team.

This CJ Anderson news surprises me. Is there a knock on this guy? Would be a good third piece for a Philly 3-headed monster running attack.

They didn't want a 7th, they wanted Juwan James.

OK, fine but again if Denver wanted James, and the Dolphins said no, our best offer is a 7th. Wouldn't that be better than simply releasing him.
Miami might not have offered a 7th, I have no idea. Miami could have just hedged their bet on him getting released and signing with them outright. They've got arguably the worst starting RB situation in the NFL so he'd be a day 1 starter almost guaranteed.

Makes me wonder if Denver is going to try to trade up with the Giants

I think Miami backed out from what I can gather thinking maybe CJ gets released? Cdum could probably give you a better idea.

This is everything I have gathered on the situation...

1) There was a trade in place where the Broncos would send CJ to the Dolphins for James. It was very close to happening but the Dolphins worked hard to clean up some of their cap situation and with the Tackle market being like it is right now decided the better decision was to keep James and just wait and see if the Broncos would cut CJ.

2) Teams just are not really in the market to trade for RB's right now. This draft is one of the deeper in recent history when it comes to quality RB's so why trade even a 7th and have to take on his $4.5 million when you can use a 5th and get a good RB that won't cost $4.5 million over a 4-year period?

3) My guess is good chance he still ends up in Miami. He is very close to Adam Gase as I know the two still talk quite frequently on the phone.

4) For the Broncos at this point he was never in their future plans. They like the guy they got in Booker and I would bet they use a draft pick on a RB at some point in the upcoming draft. The Broncos know they needed a bit more cap space with how expensive this draft class will be so saving that $4.5 million makes sense.

NE quick bring him in for a looksy. Miami isn't going anywhere. CJ wants to play in Feb. He'd make a nice addition to the team. Heck let Gillislee walk.
