This is the type of dialogue that we can expect more of during the dark days of the off season. Sigh....

We gotta pass the time somehow.

My boss calls a route a root.

DT runs good ROOTS..

Drives me nuts.

Well, now that particular example is much more egregious than calling a punter a kicker of the football! Think about that when you're cruisin' down Root 66.

Personally, I would say creek, river, runoff, rivulet, waterway, canal, ditch or any number of other terms before I would use the word steam.

Anyway and back to special teams. The Broncos really don't have much option but to get better next year.

I feel like two things are very common of our broncos historically.

We often don't have good special teams minus kicker.

and we never have that X factor on offense, that makes plays and is a threat everytime the ball is in his hands.

Sorta like the opposite of the history of the Kansas City Chiefs.

Not many good return men in the history of Denver.

Well I feel like it's a trade-off, KC always has that X-Factor on Offense/Special Teams and Denver actually does well in the playoffs and at winning Super Bowls(sure we have our losses but usually follow those up quickly with SB wins(blowing it against Jacksonville and then following that up with back to back SB wins, getting killed by Seattle but then following that up by dominating Carolina)).

But the correct term is punting in the NFL.

If you were kicking you would have your field goal unit out.

or "kicking off" after an extra point.

Team is a kicker and a punter on the team. Not a kicker and a kicker.. (Unless you carry 2 kickers)

Is this getting fun yet? ;)

So when a punter comes out for a free kick after a safety, that is a punt?

This is where it gets tricky.

Teams can actually choose if they want to kick off a tee or punt after a safety, so while the technical term is "free kick" meaning you get the option in which you want to do. If you use a tee you're "kicking" if you do not then you have elected to "punt"

99 times out of 100 I feel a team punts after a safety obviously in a different formation than a normal punt. I don't have stats to back that up, but I hardly recall anyone kicking off a tee after a safety..

Punting has much more net yardage so I would be surprised if we ever see someone actually choose to kickoff. I think most people don't even know teams get a choice because everyone punts after a safety.

I did not know that teams had a choice. So could you do an onside kick for the free kick? Do the same rules apply as if it was a normal kick off?

You cannot kick an onside kick on a free kick. Same rules do not apply.

Appears we're high on the Colts coaching staff. Signed DB coach Greg Williams.

Seems like under Elway he likes to scrap off the same teams coaching line.

Vontae Davis was a top tier corner for awhile and after we dumped Mike Adams he did pretty well as a Safety for them

Davis and Adams have done well wherever they have gone.

Until the last two years then Davis started to struggle through injuries which impacted his game on the field.

We didn't really "dump" Adams too. He was a UFA. He was a good player here, Cleveland, San Fran, Carolina and Indy.
