I find PPG funny. It's the most cited stat for a team when looking back, and much more criticized in the present. How often do we hear that the Pats haven't won a Super Bowl without a top 10 scoring defense? And yet, 2001 they were 13th in defensive DVOA, 2014 they were 12th, and 2016 they were 16th.

Interesting fact. Out of the 102 teams who have played in the Super Bowl, 72 of them have been top 5 in the league in passer rating differential. 88 of them have been top 10. And 38 out of the 51 Super Bowl winners have been top 5. 46 winners have been top 10.

Additionally, of the 51 Super Bowls, only 2 have had been against teams who were both outside the top 5 (2000 and 1986).
