For Oklahoma, assistants being hired as Head Coach:

Good Hires:
Bud Wilkinson never had any. 31 years old when hired
Jim Mackenzie never had any. 36 years old when hired
Chuck Fairbanks never had any. 33 years old when hired
Barry Switzer never had any. 36 years old when hired
Bob Stoops never had any. 39 years old when hired

Average Hires:
Gary Gibbs

Bad Hires:
Gomer Jones
John Blake

Odds are pretty good that Oklahoma knows what it's doing.

Texas fans are funny.
The only great coach they ever had was an Oklahoma All American Quarterback under Bud Wilkinson. :pound:

You forgot smells of bourbon.

Yeah
But he was already a Head Coach when Oklahoma hired him.
And oddly enough, the only guy that was already a Head Coach when we hired him outside of Jim Tatum in 1946

My first chance to comment on this news: Personally, I always liked Stoops, thought he was a good coach. Liked his no-nonsense persona, reminded me of a number of coaches I had. Did not like some of the players he brought in-I believe in second chances in a lot of cases, but others I leave to someone else to give. Heard some conjecture on Austin sports radio the other morning that Stoops was not happy with the Mixon thing, and that it was Boren's decision.

But whatever, a good coach who won the conference practically every year. I remember those years when the Big12 South was the toughest division in college football, and damn if Texas wouldnt lose to Stoops early in the year, then Mack would have to win out. Year after year that seemed to happen. 18 years is a long time to coach in big time college football. Hope his health is good.

Hiring a young offensive minded coach worked out for Texas tech, I bet it works out for OU as well.

The fact that you are comparing anything related to OU to Texas Tech shows where you are coming from. You look bad here.

Where did your qb transfer from?

What the hell does that have to do with talking about coaches? Big deal on the QB, if Mayfield wasn't playing it would be one of the other QBs lined up.

You said your shit doesn't stink compared to Tech. Generally I'd agree as that school is crawling with STD's and lowered expectations but you do have a key transfer who came in because he didn't nail down a starting position there.

I don't even really know what you're trying to get at.
I think it sounded better in your head.

What The Fuck is it with all the Patterson love. And ahead of Jimbo and Les is completely retarded.
Paul Myerburg, who the hell is he, and you lose any credibility when you do shit like this.

Patterson has literally not done jack shit compared to the other coaches on here. He's a close second to Petersen.
