Yeah my only issue is moving to the 3-4, right now? Idk much for or against this new fish but I guess MR seas it as a big upgrayed so whatever. Wait and see is something I'm expert level at

Shouldn't be too hard, our DE's and LB's on roster now are more suited for it

only problem is finding a Nose, but the way DE recruiting has gone with our 4-3, can't be much harder

At UCONN he switched between a 3-4 and a 4-3 pretty regularly. I think he will be able to call a defense that fits our personnel.

Talking apples to oranges here but when I watch high school teams and some college teams for that matter run the 3-4 defense and they don't have the personnel they tend to get plowed in the run game. 3-4 reminds me of the the old 5-2 just with smaller players.. We need to get the recruits to be beasts on D.

I can't imagine MR will be afforded taking 2 yrs off on defense while they work out a systematic change as such

I am curious how much he is getting paid and who Wisconsin is going to get now

Right, which is why his ability to call a 4-3 is an asset if we truly don't have the personnel for a 3-4. I'd argue we don't really have the personnel for a 4-3 either (see our pass rush since Randy Gregory left). With a 3-4, we'd have more options for bringing pressure. Stanford runs a 3-4 without a typical huge noseguard.

I like the hire. Def an upgrade over Banker. If you told me when we had Papuchis or even when MR was first hired that we would be bringing in a DC with his background I would have been ecstatic. As it is now, we're all justifiably pessimistic against anyone that is brought in. I don't think we're going to have a great record anyway next year so it's probably good timing to make a hire like this and get the new scheme down while getting some recruits to fit it and break in our new starting QB at the same time.

3-4 gives you a lot more angles for blocking and if you don't have the talent or a well coach good oline will eat up a 3-4 defense.

3-4 requires speed and great open field tackling.
