He should make for a good platoon bat. Good deal.

Like the deal for Toronto as well. He can become a decent depth player for them for sure.

And they got Grichuk. They're not great outfielders by any means, but collectively it should be fine. The Jays do seem to get the most out of power hitters, so I wouldn't be surprised if Grichuk hits ~35 home runs. I also wouldn't be surprised if those came with a sub-.300 OBP.

Fangraphs' DC projections do have the Jays improving this season (84-78, 4 games behind the Angels for the 2nd WC). They have the offense improving from 4.28 R/G to 5.04. They've still got a hole at DH. Morales was a dumb signing.

Good ball park choice. His power numbers should benefit.
He can't hit lefties anymore (.205/.283/.370 vs LHP from 2015-2017), but he still makes a lot of sense as a right handed option for a platoon (.248/.360/.486 vs RHP over last 3 years). Gibbons seems to do a pretty good job with platoons.

He could never hit lefties ... great person though!! Would have liked to see the Tigers ink him!!

yeah this is a really nice deal.

I would've been ok with Boston doing this and making him a DH. Part time at least.

I wanted Santana.

Gotta get more platoon advantages.

If the Sox don't live up to expectations this year they may need to start selling off pieces.

Same here. He would have been a pretty big improvement at 1B/DH.

Don't agree about that though, this team has won 93 games and a division title over the last two years. The playoff performances are a bit disappointing, but they ran into two WS teams (and a WS winner). The Sox project to be one of the best teams in the AL once again.

Yeah but the window will close fast.

Pomeranz and Kimbrel FAs after this year.

Sale, Porcello, Bogey after next year.
