Rutgers is a P5 right? :nono:
They are the epitome of big fish, little pond. They looked great beating up that shit conference and as soon as they stepped into the ocean, they got their shit pushed in. TCU got fucked up the first couple of years then recovered once they were able to adjust to the league and recruit P5 players. If you baby step in two teams first and they get some decent wins it doesn’t look as bad as bringing in 4 corpses to pretend you are a real conference.

I think Arizona and Arizona State are some teams that the networks would pay extra for.
BYU too.

All those would be great additions.
But I just don't see the Arizona schools making a move.

Rutgers didn't beat up sh*t in any conference, never won the BigEast. They have zero business being in a P5 conference, none.
They were added to the BIG for the TV market that they were in for the BIG network and that's it. That doesn't apply in the Big12.

So Cincinnati and USF haven’t had a quality P5 win in over 6 years, both have had multiple losing seasons recently, and they would instantly be P5 quality teams?

They would be called such if the Big12 got a conference network and added them but that wouldn't make it so .
Could USF/UCF ect. recruit well in state and someday contend in the Big12? I'd like to believe yes but then, USF never put it all together in the BigEast either but until the TV deal is up there is no reason to bring them on board unless the tv folks want to give us more money and restructure the contract to add em and that aint happening because they get to air them now at a fraction of the cost.

Nobody is calling Oregon State, Rutgers, Kansas, or Illinois P5 quality teams so just because they are playing in a P5, doesn’t make them a P5 quality team. If Texas and Oklahoma leave, the Big12 will cease to be a power conference and will just be another midmajor.

Oklahoma State to the SEC to make 16.

Texas goes Independent.
The rest add Houston and become the Big 8

It could happen.

Not really. Texas will never go independent. If they were, EVERY P5 would sell their mothers to get them in. It would be a vicious bidding war.

Texas isn't being run by Deloss Dodds anymore. They'd likely join the PAC, there's virtually no interest from the Texas side in the SEC or B1G. Culturally the PAC is a better fit, but Texas is content where we are.

I also have a hard time believing OU and Texas would go to separate conferences. I think OU learned they don't want to lose another rival like they did in Nebraska. I think both schools realize they're better off together than moving separately.

Is there something that makes you think they wanted Mizzou?

They wanted Oklahoma. Mizzou was the shitty consolation prize that gave them viewers in St. Louis.

OU and Texas are bound together. There is very little reason for them to leave the Big 12. They have the easiest road to the playoffs.

Oklahoma State to the SEC to make 16. * The SEC won't take Oklahoma St. They don't bring enough value.

Texas goes Independent.
The rest add Houston and become the Big 8 * If there are only 7 teams left after Oklahoma & Texas leave, then the leftovers will be parsed out between the Big 10, Pac-12, Mountain West, AAC & CUSA.

Is there something that makes you think they wanted Mizzou?
* Missouri wasn't initially a target, but the SEC wanted to balance its divisions. The Tigers had been on a pretty good run in football, men's & women's basketball, and softball in the years leading up to their invitation, and they brought a new viewership into the mix. Back in 1992, the SEC settled for South Carolina when they really wanted Florida St; but they are not going to take two teams from Oklahoma.

The original invite was for Aggie and Oklahoma. Oklahoma’s state regents said junior had to tag along and the SEC said no thanks.

This man gets it:dingdingding:,
if we were talking HUGE money for leaving then....meh maybe but that's not the case and OU/Texas have it good in the Big12, doesn't make sense to go put up with ego's and power trips in other conferences when they rule the roost, make good money, and have an easier path to national notoriety in this one.

Schools recruit nationally regardless. Having a school in conference doesn't mean much at all. If it did then BIG teams wouldn't have many kids from FL on their rosters but... they do, just like everyone else.
One of WVU's newest pipeline states for recruiting now is Georgia :noidea:

Yeah, to a certain extent, most of the big time programs try to recruit nationally; but the more a team is exposed to a certain area, the better their chance at landing prospects from there - especially if they have a strong or up-and-coming program.
