Do not count out Gary Patterson. TCu will always be in the hunt as long as that guy is coaching them.

Except when he is not in the hunt, which has happened more times than not. In 5 seasons in the Big 12 he has had 2 losing seasons and a 7-6 season.

Right? I don't get all the hype for Patterson tbh.

yep, sadly have to agree with many here -
Tech will be lucky to win 3 games next season -
but on the plus side,
it should be coach bro's last year -

Kenny Hill is his qb. Next year with Robinson all bets are off but with a pick machine behind center they are average

I have a Good Idea, and it is Historically Accurate.

Instead of the Big 12, make it The Big 1 or 2....

Gonna be interesting to watch your "Bailor Bares" the next few years Hu. My BIL is a Baylor grad and still has some connections there. The feedback he's getting is that Rhule is 180 degrees from Briles. If he is truly such a good guy, it is going to be interesting to see if a "good guy" coach can win at a place like Baylor. Briles did it by taking talented guys with questionable character. Can a person get it done at places like Baylor with a bunch of choir boys? Time will tell.

Yeah, he's a religious hard-liner, but Briles was supposed to be one, too. I think Art was a little too liberal with the Grace and too light on the Truth, if you know what I'm saying. He wanted to give these poor boys as many chances as he could without holding them accountable.

Rhule is going to have to hit Texas high schools hard. Briles could fire off a text to an old coach friend, and kids would line up to sign. Plus they lost at least two entire classes, so the university needs to give Rhule at least 5 years to turn this back into a halfway decent team.

Heard this exact discussion on XM driving to the grandkids last week.

Realistically, don't you think only about 25-30% of schools in the Power 5 have a shot at a conference championship "year in and year out"? The other70-75% have to have "catch lightening in a bottle" type years to win one.

Using the last 10 years data regarding conference championships:
The ACC is really nothing more than a Big 3 with 12 also rans.
The B1G is really nothing more than a Big 4 with 10 also rans.
The Big 12 is really nothing more than a Big 6 with 4 also rans (take away co champs and it is 4 and 6)
The PAC 12 is really nothing more than a Big 5 with 7 also rans (take away co champs and it is 4 and 8)
The SEC is really nothing more than a Big 4 with 10 also rans.

While this data may be a little "oversimplified", just how much chance does a Wazzou, Wake Forest, Iowa State, etc have to win a CC.... other than occasionally?

Conference champs the past 10 years.

ACC (3)
Clemson - 4 2009, 2011, 2015, 2016 (2009 Ga Tech beat Clemson but NCAA vacated Ga Tech's championship)
Florida State - 3 2012, 2013, 2014
Va Tech - 2007, 2008, 2010

B1G (4)
Ohio State - 5 2007, 2008 (Co champs), 2009, 2010 (Tri champs), 2014
Michigan State - 3 2010 (Tri champs), 2013, 2015
Wisconsin - 3 2010 (Tri champs), 2011, 2012
Penn State - 2 2008 (Co champs), 2016

Big 12 (6 only 4 w/o "co champs")
Oklahoma - 6 2007, 2008, 2010, 2012 (Co champs), 2015, 2016
Oklahoma State 1-1 2011
Texas - 1 2009
Baylor - 2 2013, 2014 (Co champs)
Kansas State - 1 2012 (Co champs)
TCU - 1 2014 (Co champs)

PAC 12 (5 only 4 w/o "co champs")
Oregon - 4 2009, 2010, 2011, 2014
Stanford - 3 2012, 2013, 2015
Washington - 1 2016
USC - 2 2007 (Co champs), 2008
Arizona State - 1 2007 (Co champs)

SEC (4)
Alabama - 5 2009, 2012, 2014, 2015, 2016
Auburn - 2 2010, 2013
Florida - 1 2008
LSU - 2 2007, 2011

Notice Michigan, Georgia, Tennessee, UCLA, Notre Dame aren't on the list anywhere. And Texas, USC, Washington, Florida, Okie Lite, etc are only on there once or twice.

Yep. Seems like it's been this was for a long time. The vast majority of teams out there are nothing more than speed bumps for the 15 or so programs who have a legit shot at a Title every year.

Clemson's title should have come as a shock to many; it's an Ag/Tech school in a small state, they have to share their recruits with another D-1A school just down the block, and they play in a basketball league.

Exactly right. I'm of the opinion that schools not in the upper echelon have to take an occasional uber talented kids of questionable character in order to compete. Some that may have been dismissed from the big boys because of character issues. Hell, Devonte Fields has done well at Louisville after Patterson showed himt he door..and TCU isn't even one of the big boys.

However, when those type players screw up...which they will...the coach and the school has to man up and deal with it correctly or 180 degrees opposite of how Briles, the AD and Pres dealt with them historically at Baylor.

Good friend of mine knows Ken Starr. He said Starr brought it up one day without being prompted, was saying how important it was to deal with this issue "sensitively." My friend took that to mean that Starr was being concerned for the victims (and he really feels like Starr wanted to handle it right). Now I don't doubt that concern for victims was a part of it, but he might have meant a whole lot of other things by saying that.

Another friend of mine who works in Waco (and is an Alum) said that campus sexual assault/misconduct is a huge problem "university-wide." I know this kinda schtuff happens at all colleges, but frankly I expect better from Southern Baptists. Another side of me knows from experience that certain people of faith like to keep their heads in the sand and pretend that sex never happens.

He probably did. And way to often these institutions and organizations too concerned about their public perception and image than admitting they have problems and dealing with them. Hell, just having the reputation of doing the right thing the right way will buy you the best public relations you can get over time. It may give you a temporary black eye, but long term it is a hell of a lot better.

That was a joke. It's was the first team vs the 2nd team with 2 third string CBs. That spring game was nothing but a Kool Aid fest. #1 Offense is awesome. #1 Defense is awesome. Things tend to work out like that when you do 1s vs 2s

Spring games really are meaningless, IMO. I remember VY would look nothing but average, while Gilbert would look like a Heisman candidate.

But He's winning with 3 stars and kicking the ever living shit out of our top ten recruiting classes, which is not tough to do today, I know. Still, give him top 10 recruiting classes and he would dominate every year.

Same with the Pac, FYI......Historically, it's been a one team conference.
