Historic place. Been going there since the mid 60s and I don't ever remember it being "nicer". Not much to look at but the food and beer have always been good.

They used to have a quote on the menu. Went something like "It has been stated that more legislation is passed by the Texas Legislature at Scholz's Beer Garden than at the Texas Capitol"

I grew up in the hill country so I’m a sucker for good German food. Haven’t been down town Austin for over 20 years. Lots of good food down here

Question for those guys or @Lance Armstrong or @starbigd. At one time, didn't a group of ex Longhorn NFL players purchase Schoz's to keep from getting it turned into a parking garage? IIRC Steve McMichael was one of them. Or, was that just legend/lore.
