That assumes Love is a good value.

While packaging Love with a TT or Hill seems like a good idea, who is willing to take on $45 million in salary?

You would be able to return expiring contracts and maybe a late 1st pick.

CLE doesn't have a bad enough deal they should be packaging.

They need to use those expiring contracts next year to get assets OR try to blow it up with all the cap space in the world and try to attract a FA.....yeah right.

Charlotte could be an interesting option.

Monk and Marvin I think gets you pretty close salary matching wise.

Pretty sure only Love's contract expires next year.

Of the bad ones anyway (TT, Smith, Hill, Korver) I think all have 2 more years after this one

I thought Love had 2 more years too. He is, he has 24.1 (2018) and 25.5 (2019) salaries left on his contract.

The only deals CLE has on their books for 2020 are Zizic's 2nd option (questionable if it'll get picked up anyway) and Cedi's RFA (could easily renounce his rights if he can't play with this cast of characters in front of him).

The other one that could be on the books would be the 8th overall pick's salary. I don't think CLE even has their 2019 first, so literally they could have one guy on the books.

2018 is this year.

Those others are through 2020.

Don't know what you are looking at.

Love has a player option for 2020. Everyone else is locked in.

Yeah but 2019/2020 is a player option.

Hill is 19M - 18/19, 18M - 19/20
TT is 17.4M - 18/19, 18.5M - 19/20
JR is 14.7M - 18/19, 15.7M - 19/20
Korver is 7.5M for 18/19 and 19/20

If they are going to trade Love, do it this offseason. I wouldn’t even wait till the trade deadline

2 more years. And yes, those are all very bad contracts aside from Love.

which is why I would hold out for a higher pick. Its not like cleveland will attract free agents, they will need to rebuild through the draft

Like I said though,

What team with a top 10 pick is going to prefer Kevin Love and the $25 million salary that goes with him?

Maybe Philly if they strike out in FA. That is probably it.

I think you will be suprised man. Love at some of these contracts:

Deng $18m
Parsons $24.1m
Noah $18.5m
Galinari $21.6m
Batum $25M

I mean Love is much much better than all those players. Teams will get desperate like they always do and a borderline top 10 future pick isn’t a whole lot depending on the team.

What about the teams that cannot attract FA’s and they have the money to spend? Love is a great option for them.

I mean, sure.

But only because many NBA teams are terribly run.

There is a very small number of teams that can actually use Love. On a team like the Knicks, he might help them win 35 games. They might do it if they could unload Noah and their pick, but I don't think it would be the right long term move.

@Shanemansj13

I am not saying Love is a bad contract.

I am saying he isn't a premium trade asset.

Especially if they don't bring Redick back.

Ohh I know he isn’t a bad contract but what I an saying is while Love might not worth a ton he has a better contract than most guys especially for teams that have to trade for a FA and have no way of getting FA’s in the offseason.
Fork up 15-20 mil for paying an average player who is a risk in FA or trade for a proven 20-10 guy at 25M? I am saying I think he does have more value as a trade asset than you believe. I think we can both agree you wont be getting anything great for him but good players/a decently high draft pick 8-15...

Maybe.

I think the suggestion of Oubre, Gortat and the 15 is just about perfect.

A mid first round pick, a solid, young, cheap player and a bad contract. That is the type of package I expect to see.
