Good picks. There are a few picks like Chicago that just kinda fall out of the 1970 parameter.

Definitely....more than a few.....but there are a bunch right on the cusp.

In fact, I'll just add Earth, Wind & Fire to the mix.

If you scale it back to '68, then you get to include Spirit, Led Zep, Iron Butterfly, Yes, Jethro Tull, Deep Purple, and more.

Honestly, I think '68 is a better parameter for the 70's since most bands don't hit their stride for at least 2 years. just my opinion.

prolific song writer, great frontman, top notch band, awesome to see live back then.

Yeah, I'm not exactly sure of the intended criteria here, but when you add up the score of generally accepted elements such as hits and longevity, Bruce Springsteen has to be right there.

End of thread. I love the Talking Heads, but when the best band ever (The Clash) was formed in your decade, it's hard to win best band of the decade.
You make a good point.

It's close.
One could make a case for Queen, and I would probably end up agreeing with them.
But one can also not deny the genius of David Byrne.

I like making threads in the style of @outofyourmind.
Creedence split up in 1972, so for me, the 70s sucked.
