Mr. Bonino Bonino Bonino Bonino Bonino Bonino and how he got started with Hockey Night in Punjabi.

I lived in Calgary with my family and couldn’t justify the expense of moving to Toronto for what Hockey Night Punjabi was paying at the time. But I also knew that if I said no to the opportunity, there would be a lineup of people ready to take on the position. To make matters worse, I was told there wasn’t any budget to fly me to Toronto for the games.

I didn’t exactly know how I could make it work, to be honest. But I wasn’t about to turn down the chance to do Hockey Night every week.

I told the producers, “Don’t worry. I’ll be there!”

And we’re always referencing chai tea. Like, if your team had a bad period … maybe they need a cup of chai tea during the intermission.

Marc Savard's story...

Hell and Back | The Players' Tribune

Edit:
I was obviously seeing neurological specialists, but just as important, I was also seeing a really good psychologist, Dr. Stephen Durant. I would recommend therapy to any player suffering from postconcussion syndrome, because I really needed someone to talk to about how I was feeling. It got pretty bad.

I never actually had thoughts of taking my own life, but psychologists have a rating system that they use to track your mental state, and at one point, my symptoms were so serious that I was considered suicidal.

I don’t say that to be dramatic, or to make anyone feel sorry for me. It’s simply the truth. I was in a very dark place, and I think it’s a place that a lot of people struggling with postconcussion syndrome get to.

The more you hear about concussions from the players the more hellish it sounds. This and Bryce Salvador's paint a pretty awful picture.

I hope Colin Campbell read that article and I wonder if he has any regrets about the following text he sent in an e-mail to Mike Milbury:

“The mania surfaced on the Lucic hit…not a chance that should be out of the game. I’m sorry to Boston, but someone should teach that young man something about keeping his head up. Hitting is a vital aspect to everything our game is about and we may be adjusting it too much if we are not careful…and give in to the masses. ”

Just brutal stuff from Colin Campbell.

Yeah. The thing that really gets me is that almost all these guys have been through them to some degree. I'd bet that 80% of the players that have played 200 games in the NHL have had a concussion at some point in their career. In light of that, it's strange and a little scary to me that there are still guys in this century that go out of their way to target the head.

I had a concussion as a teen and we knew so much less than. But those symptoms of being irritable, drowsy, exhausted and confused (OK I'm confused most of the time anyway) are very clear memories for me. Luckily they lasted only about 10 days in my case. I can't fathom months on end of that.

Also the part about him coming back too soon was poignant. I look at guys like MacArthur and Crosby and I'm scared for those guys. In Crosby's case I really don't think he should be back yet. Given his history I would want to see a solid few weeks of being symptom-free before throwing him back out there. I truly believe he should not be playing right now. But of course...

My first home game was against the Kings at the Igloo on Oct. 10, 2003. My dream was becoming a reality. Maybe the excitement was a little high. So high, that, well … I forgot something. As everybody was getting ready to head out of the locker room, I made my way towards the ice, fist bumped a few guys (including Marc Bergevin and Mario) and then I realized that I had forgotten my stick. It was a pretty funny walk of shame past all my teammates to go grab my stick. As I was walking back, Mario cracked a little smile and said “You’re going to need that tonight, kid.”

Thank You, Pittsburgh | The Players' Tribune

And then you got to the locker room, finally, where no one could see you or hear you, and all of that emptiness turned itself into emotion. Looking around at everyone — everyone who had fought with you all the way to a Cup final, to a Game 6, to a bounce away from a Game 7 — and it was hard to keep your emotions in check. They weren’t even all bad emotions. I was proud, for sure — both of this team and of myself. And I definitely wasn’t breaking sticks or anything. But I was still … I don’t know. It’s kind of hard to explain. There was nothing left to do, you know? So I just sat at my locker, and I looked at everyone, and I thought about everything, and I cried.

A lot of the guys did. A few of the guys talked, eventually. Mike Fisher got up first, and said some words. He talked about how proud he was to be a Predator, and how proud he was of this season. I think a lot of us were still too emotional to talk yet — so it was good of Mike to get up. After that, Joey spoke. Obviously he’d been injured, and was having to watch from the crowd, and wanting to be out there so bad — I know how tough that had to have been. And then P.K. spoke, and of course he was awesome — pure P.K. He talked about how fun this was. And about how glad he was to be here. And about how much confidence we should take with ourselves going into the next season.

cesspool saying this is a preemptive "we're retiring at the end of this season" announcement ... i dont see that in there lol

I didn't get that either. I think they just know the city's expectations and how they can be unrealistic and wanted to lay out the information directly from them. They know they are older, and don't want to leave. That should stop all rumours but it won't. Not with this media
