Okay, but it's still not correct because Oklahoma got left out with an RPI of 33 in 1994. Makes me question the rest of the article to be honest.

Well, again, we're talking about since the expansion to a field of 68 teams.

Thought you were referencing expansion to 64 teams. Apologies. But that's a pretty small sample size.

I still say that Oklahoma is the worst selection this year. 2-9 on the road. #49 RPI. 18-13 overall record. Lost 8 of their last 10. Lost in the first round of the Big 12 tourney.

Shame on the NCAA for putting an undeserving team in only because they have a popular player.

Arizona State making it over USC was hilarious too though.

Oklahoma State would have had the worst RPI of all time had they got it. They also were not even one of the first 4 out as they are a 2 seed in the NIT.

Right, we're only talking about since 2011; however, I think leaving out USC is still pretty notable, especially when you consider Arizona State getting in.

Yeah, but they also don't own a win over an at-large team, which would also have set a precedent had they gotten in.

That's a terrible metaphor IMO.

If an NBA team starts out 40-10, and finishes 8-22, they still deserve to make the playoffs. And it's not like OU took on bad losses during their stretch, they only had 1 combined Q3/Q4 loss.

Bad comparison, because this is not a pure counting exercise. In that case OSU gets in. We are making a subjective calls on teams. Records are different. Player/team growth curves are different. Big 12 did it like the NBA would and OU proved they did not belong.

That was bad. The OOC is interesting and it makes for good argument, but I find it really odd to throw out the evidence of conference play

Who do you think should have gotten in then?

I would take St Mary's, ND, Middle Tenn, and USC. Probably another 3-4 teams better if I go look at Kenpom

Maybe the NCAA is hoping that Bobby Hurley will bring back the magic of those 1990's Duke teams

True, but I thought that finishing second in the conference, getting to the conference tournament championship game, having a much higher RPI, and being in much better form than Arizona State should've been more than enough to get them the nod over the Sun Devils.

And none of those teams have a better resume.

I don't see how OU has a strong resume. Losing conference record. 4-11 to close. Best ball was played early, when other teams were improving OU was going backwards.

None of what you listed matters though.

Apparently, the committed agrees with you. I am not sure those things are inconsequential, most people thought 4-11 meant something. Last 10 was once part of the selection talk. Now the committee seems enamoured with RPI and things like conference play and head to head results are ignored
