Thursday, August 10: James Paxton v. Tyler Skaggs

Friday, August 11: Marco Gonzales v. Ricky Nolasco

Saturday, August 12: Erasmo Ramirez v. J.C. Ramirez

Sunday, August 13: Ariel Miranda v. Parker Bridwell

• Trade-a-day GM Jerry Dipoto outdid even himself when he pulled off two trades Sunday, which isn’t easy to do after the deadline. One of them was for Yonder Alonso, who could be a big plus if he reverts to first half (and All-Star Game) form.
• The dangers of trade making was seen this week, too though, as both Marco Gonzales and Erasmo Ramirez struggled, while David Phelps had to go to the doctor after elbow pain. To counterbalance, the pickups of Jean Segura, Mitch Haniger, Ben Gamel and Guillermo Heredia have paid off big.
• Felix Hernandez recently went on the DL with a shoulder issue. But people who have seen his medicals remain amazed that has been able to pitch as effectively as he has considering how his pictures look. This is why his $175-million, seven-year extension was held up at the time. The Mariners went through with the deal, it seems, partly based on the King’s heart.

Hisashi Iwakuma (shoulder) could throw a simulated game in the next week.

Iwakuma has made it through a couple of bullpen sessions without issue and is just about ready to take the next step in his rehabilitation from a right shoulder injury. The veteran starter has been on the disabled list since early May.

Is this supposed to mean that his shoulder is shot to hell and the only reason he has been halfway decent is because he pushes himself? That's reassuring.

That is how I read it. He has basically been Kuma but able to play through it more.

And once again, that is why I said trade Paxton for a haul at the trade deadline. Even if we ever made the playoffs, his best yer is 121 IP. His arm wouldn't last in the playoffs. As JT says, 'Bye, bye, bye"
