Not a bad 7th starter, with ability to pitch 2 or 3 innings behind an unpredictable rotation.
Do you sign the guy?
i'd say ... yeah.

You never know what you are going to get with him.. one day he is throwing a shutout into the 8th inning.. the next he is getting hit like a tee for 8 runs in 2 innings.. most inconsistent starter in the MLB last year.

Vice, I do not want him as a starter. (I said 7th best). I thought I made that clear. He's a middle reliever.

These rookie SP's are TJ fodder. It's what happens when you set a MLB record for rookie starts the previous year. They should have suffered Chapman's $6M paycheck and made him start until trading hm at the deadline with about 400 K's...Alfie's 5.05 Earnie in Detroit probably got him down to Reds payroll rate. Better than Marquis, I suppose. The bullpen is also at a historically bad outlook. Wonder what Ricky Stone is doing these days....Reed and Stephenson might be up in May, but likely the dozen opening day pitching staff will lose 7 pitchers by the A-S break, assuming those two stick, Bailey comes back, and only 4 others are bombed off the hill by then.

Simon will be as good as anybody they could get on short notice.

This team will view winning as an 6-letter word.

He signed for the magic figure : $2M.

My post season math had about $40M payroll left to pay 20 players on the roster, after Votto, Bailey, Phillips, Bruce and Mesoraco.

You can't buy a steak on a bologna budget. My question is, were Stephenson and Reed substantially less tasty sausages at $450K each ? I might rather have had the 2 Big Red Smokeys AND a couple Hudepohls, than one giant Mettwurst Alfredo and a warm water.

Simon has pitched more than 150 innings in a season before though. Short supply of those in Reds camp.

Speaking of sausage, I see where the Reds told Jon Sanchez to "goetta" out of here.

He was among 8 sent out of the big league camp today which included Winker, Robert Stephenson, and a handful of minor leaguers.

I think Stepheson and Reed are victims of the arb clock, nothing more.
