Not sure. He's been walking almost twice as many batters as he was in 2014/15 (3.75 BB/9; was 2.16 in 2014 and 1.98 last year). He isn't getting as many ground balls as he was those years either (56.5%; 63.5% in 2014 and 61.7% last year). He's been giving up a lot more hard contact (29.9%, was 21.3% last year).

He's had some bad luck as well (.351 BABIP, 64.4% strand rate, 3.92 FIP and 3.68 xFIP), but he hasn't been nearly as good as he was the last two seasons.

Feelings on the M's from outside perspectives based on their hot start?

Hard to get a gauge as an M's fan being so jaded. I know most of us have cautious optimism being almost 50 games in yet there's still that nagging feeling that it will all come crashing down soon.

The lineup is still pretty iffy outside of Seager/Cano/Cruz, but those three are damn good players. Rumors of Cano's demise have been greatly exaggerated. And Felix no longer looks like King Felix.

Good article, thanks for posting. That spells out the troubles we have had all year, and how it's amazing we aren't in last place. If anyone told me before the season that Fielder would hit half his weight, Josh would never play, Choo would hardly play, and Lewis & AJ would be our best pitchers...I'd have though we were a dozen games out of first by June 1.
