It is very necessary actually. They play 10X the rest of the season. If the Red Sox continue to lose series to the Yanks then that would be at least 3 games the yanks would make up which would be huge.

Possible, but the starting staff is becoming a strength, and the offense should get a boost with the soon to return Hicks/Castro and Bird

And we get to play the Red Sox 10x

Hicks wound up missing six weeks with a right oblique strain. The 27-year-old outfielder hit the ball well on his minor league rehab assignment and returns Thursday to an impressive .290/.398/.515 season slash line. Clint Frazier (oblique) has been placed on the disabled list in a corresponding roster move.

12-7 over the last 3 weeks. They're winning series again. This team clearly isn't the team they were in June and early July when they went 7-18.

19 games isn't a small sample size?

Yanks aren't nearly as bad as their June-July stretch would suggest, but they also overachieved in the first two months. I think their record seems pretty representative of their talent level.

Yanks go 3-4 on road trip. Thought they would go 4-3. Not the end of the world but did not think the Red Sox would go on this long ass win streak. If the Yanks lose this series, the division is over.

5.5 down in mid August will be hard to come back from.
