I think he'll have a bounceback year. Good signing.

Yeah I like it....especially on just a 1 year contract. Now time for them to improve the bullpen and get Chapman or Jansen to the bronx and move Betances back to his 8th inning role.

I like the Holliday signing for New York too. Guy has always been one of my favorite players.

Red Sox acquire Tyler Thornburg for Travis Shaw and prospect Josh Pennington. Shaw had a hot start to the 2016 season, but he struggled pretty badly from mid-May onwards. I think he'll have himself a decent MLB career, but he wasn't the answer at 3rd base. Pennington's got a long way to go before he reaches the majors, but he could be a late-inning reliever. Thornburg is coming off a very good 2016 season (2.15 ERA, 2.83 FIP, 3.28 xFIP, 12.1 K/9).

Mauricio Dubon is incldued in the trade. ehhh.

I think Dubon is a pretty legit prospect, though it remains to be seen if his power surge is for real. There's also the matter of where he would play in Boston right now considering 2B/SS are taken up by Pedroia and Bogaerts, and the OF is currently crowded with young outfielders (Benintendi/JBJ/Betts).

LMAO @ the O's not going after Joey Bats because "the fans don't like him"

If that is not the lamest excuse I have ever heard for not going after a player.

Not many Red Sox fans liked David Price prior to the signing. Not sure that's changed.

Good move by Boston there for sure. Guess they've moved on from Panda Bear with this new 3rd baseman.

Dominguez is a career .231/.273/.371 hitter in the majors (79 OPS+) and he spent nearly all of 2015 and 2016 in AAA. He had a .269/.310/.410 line in 2015, .269/.315/.421 in 2016. Keep in mind the PCL is a very hitter friendly league. He might make for a useful glove on the bench, but he isn't winning the 3rd base job.

Yea that certainly isn't what I was implying. He does have some pop and is a decent 3b to have around in a pinch.

Isn't Devers supposed to take that spot? I probably don't know how close to MLB he is. All I know is Boston needs Quintana and should give Chicago Devers!

About 4 years too late. Last winning season was 2012. Last postseason appearance was 2008. Fun fact, Ken Griffey Jr. was the White Sox's starting CF last time they made the postseason. Being a White Sox fan recently has been bad for my health, especially with that 'other' team winning this year. Miserable experience.

You see that funny clip of Farrell telling some guy to shut the hell up from this past season while in the dugout?

Well you got some good youngsters from Boston. I was sad to see a few of them go, but they are in a win now mindset. Hopefully this produces a title.

Dombrowski knows what he's doing. I believe he started his MLB front officer career with the White Sox years back.

My father-in-law is from Brockton, MA. He has lived in Chicago most of his life, but he still has the accent and is a huge Red Sox fan. I got him a mint -graded Mookie Betts autographed rookie card for his birthday last month right before the MVP results were announced. Was really pulling for Betts to win so his gift would be even better. I almost kept it and got him something else.

Thats an awesome gift. I have a signed Betts rookie card too. I haven't got it graded yet though.

I don't think there's a single Rays fan on this entire forum, but I'll post the Rays' ZiPS projections anyway.

2017 ZiPS Projections – Tampa Bay Rays | FanGraphs Baseball

They underachieved their pythag by 9 games last year. I wouldn't be surprised if they finish around .500 (maybe slightly above) next year if that rotation stays healthy. Not sure they really have the position players to contend though. Outside of Kiermaier/Longoria/Forsythe, it's a pretty meh group of players. Ramos is coming off a very good year, but he has a very lengthy injury history and some pretty meh years mixed in.
