Should be a fun thread to see who everything thinks will end up with a HOF career (not who you think will make it but who you think will be deserving).

Probably best to set a minimum of years/games since so it'll be players who have some track record as opposed to someone who hasn't had much MLB time...

I'll use the following arbitrary cutoffs, which are roughly 4 full seasons worth of games:
-600+ games for position players
-120+ games for starting pitchers
-200+ games for relievers

Really surprised how bad the HOF pitching options are...

Cano could probably use a few more very good years, but I think he'll make it. He should go down as one of the best offensive 2B of all-time and could end up being the first 2B to hit 400 home runs. He's easily been one of the most valuable players in baseball since 2009.

There's a huge disparity between Fangraphs and BB-Ref on Cano's WAR. Rbaser has him at -4 runs, making him average/slightly below average. Fangraphs' BsR, however, has him at -28.6 runs. There's also a big difference between Rfield (+23 runs) and Fangraphs' defense (-37.8). Not to mention there's also a two win difference with the positional adjustments.

It is a pretty blah group of pitchers.

Hamels and Verlander could have HOF-caliber stats when all's said and done (and what should be a very solid postseason resume), but the lack of accolades might prevent Hamels from getting any serious recognition. Same with Lester to a lesser extent.

Felix still could, but his last few seasons have been pretty meh. His peripherals aren't very encouraging either.

Hamels, maybe... Not verlander... I was surprised by how over-rated he is...

I think the closest thing to a HOF pitcher we have is King Felix...

Does K-Rod make it as a closer? He is currently 4th all time in saves and is likely going to reach 500

He is one of the best closers of all time, that is no question... But there are so many other elite relievers NOT in the HOF that I don't think he will make it...

We know that Mo will make it, but lets see if trevor Hoffman makes it...

I think Posey's got a shot to go in, considering he's only 7 years in. I think eventually he'll be moved to a different position, but he's been the best hitting catcher in his time in the big leagues. Also has an MVP in there and multiple championships where he was the best position player on the team.

How about Joe Mauer? Seemed a shoe-in a few years ago.

I would add Utley and Beltran to the list of guys who would be in right now.

Posey is an interesting one... i think it all depends on when he moves positions... the longer he plays catcher the more likely he will make the HOF....

Going off the guys that have been mentioned and giving reasons not to vote for them.

Ichiro I don't see any reason to not vote for him
Miguel Cabrera the only negative was his brushes with the law and his glove at third
Albert Pujols hints of steroids but no hard evidence
Adrian Beltre where he has played the majority of his career. People do not realize how good he has been.
Alex Rodriguez steroids
Clayton Kershaw still young and needs a few more years atop the cy young discussion
Mike Trout he is still early in his career, but baring a major injury I don't see how he will not be a shoe in
Robbie Cano if he can have a few more seasons like this one in Seattle he should be in the discussion
CC he fell off way to much the last few years
Verlander he has great years and then he has blah years
Cole Hamels hall of very good
Felix Hernandez he is not the same pitcher he was before
K-Rod hall of very good
David Ortiz two things DH and Steriods
Buster Posey if he stays as a catcher he will be a shoe in, if he moves to 1B no
Joe Mauer see Posey

If I had a vote with what they have done right now I would vote for

Ichiro
Miguel Cabrera
Albert Pujols
Adrian Beltre

Borderline to me
Clayton Kershaw
David Ortiz
Alex Rodriguez
Robbie Cano

The rest either need more top line seasons or are Hall of Very Good IMO.

Even though Kershaw and Trout haven't played long enough, i really can't imagine them not making it... Even with craptastical rest of career...

Utley shouldn't be a HOFer.

Unless second baseman who are better and aren't in, get in first.

Beltran isn't an HOFer to me either. But he's well ahead of Utley in my book.

Mauer, no.

Kershaw is the only current pitcher I see getting in. Two years ago I would've thought King Felix was. Not now. KRod would have to find his power arm again in order to stay a closer for 4-5 more years. Great career, one of many closers from the modern era who I don't see as HOFers.

Hamels is not worthy, to me. Neither is JV. ERA is already too high. Don't see him getting the Win totals to cancel it out.

I doubt Posey stays a catcher long enough. Just like Mauer. He could, but I think the odds are against him. Sal Perez could be, but he's a big fella with a lot of mileage already. Yadi has a shot.

Big Papi shouldn't get in before Edgar Martinez.

Cano, maybe. Depends on how long he can continue to be a solid hitter.

Pujols, Ichiro, Cabrera and Beltre are first ballot guys imo. And I'm pretty sure Trout will be. He'd have to fall apart physically and soon in order to not be.

ARod should be, but who knows what kind of hate will follow him.

If Pedroia can stay productive for another 5-6 years, he could have a decent case. Either WAR you look at, he's got 46+ to his credit (HOF borderline is about 60). He's a career .302/.367/.446 (117 wRC+) hitter at a position that isn't known for offense historically. Not to mention Pedroia rates as an excellent 2B, whether you go by Gold Gloves (4x), defensive metrics (UZR/DRS), or the eye test. Pedroia's having an excellent year right now (5+ WAR and hitting .332/.392/.466), but he is 33 years old at a position that isn't known for guys aging well.

HOF or not though, he could go down as the best Sox 2B of all-time.
