I'm very surprised that the Yankees hired Aaron Boone as their new manager, but that being said, I actually think this is a good hire. What do you guys think?

Hard to justify imo. No expierience at any level, coming into a team that just missed the WS. Seems like baseballs version of the Vols search.

Glad he won't be doing commentary anymore.

That's why I'm so surprised. If a team like the Phillies or something would've hired him it wouldn't have shocked me, but such a high-profile Yankees team? That is really surprising. I do think he is a smart baseball mind though, so I think it could be good. I guess we'll see.

I don't want to knock his baseball knowledge at all. He's a Boone. But the lack of experience and State of the franchise are a weird combo.

It kind of reminds me of another team that was a WS contender and hired a first time manager. Only to see their team fall so far that they have the #1 pick in next years draft.

The scary part for me is I liked the Ausmus hire a lot more then I like this one.

He had FO expierience and managerial expierience.

I wish Ausmus was still the Tigers manager fwiw.

Ausmus actually coached college ball, while in college.

He never played college ball though. He went to college while playing in the minors.

Well, at least I won't have to listen to him on Sundays anymore. There's that.

I don't think firing Girardi (a fine, if unspectacular manager IMO) for an unproven manager (at any level) makes much sense.

My understanding of it was Cashmen and Girardi did not get along and the situation got to the point that one had to go.

If I was hiring a first timer, it would have been Beltran

Boone's wife is much hotter though, so maybe some services were promised if Boone got the job

He can reminisce about that time he hit that homer.... Get the young guys "motivated" by that I guess.

In their defense, Dusty is only one person and it is going to take a few more years before he can get to all the teams

I liked the Ausmus hiring ... wrong guy for the wrong team ... he may be good somewhere else. That is why I always take a wait and see when evaluating managers and coaches.
