King Felix has been one of the few bright spots for the Mariners over the last decade. Glad to see him get a perfect game. He's had a few 1 and 2 hitters over the years, but he sealed the deal today. The first of several maybe? :p

It's almost criminal the lack of run support he gets.

Nobody has ever pitched a perfect game as far as I know.

Of course, I consider a perfect game to be 81 (or 90, or 99, etc.) consecutive strikes. None of this relying on your defense bullshit. That will almost certainly never happen, though.

I would also consider giving the perfect game moniker to a game like the above mentioned, but allowing hits where the pitcher is solely responsible for the out - a line/fly out to the pitcher, or a ground out where the pitcher is the only one who touches the ball. Basically, the only guys who get to touch the ball are the pitcher and catcher, and the catcher is only there to throw the ball back to the pitcher after each pitch.

I disagree. If you have a perfect game where you throw 180 pitches and your shortstop creates his own Top 10 plays because he's having to dive all over to save balls from getting to the outfield, isn't that worse than a perfect game where you throw 100 pitches and your defense barely has to work? And by definition, doesn't that make the first game less than perfect, since it could have been better?

So yeah, 81 straight strikes. None of them foul balls. The batters don't even touch it. That's a perfect game to me. And nobody will ever do it.

There's a name for a perfect game with 27 strikeouts, and that's the perfect perfect game.

It was done by a high school softball pitcher in Tucson last spring.

Philly fans have such ridiculous expectations. No wonder they're never happy after any local teams season ends.:peace:
