Which team(s) from the P5 conferences have a realistic chance to win a natty in the next 25 years...excluding the ones listed below that have already won at least one in the past 25 years?

In the past 25 years, 14 different teams have won a national championship. (I've placed them in current conferences, not necessarily the ones they were in when they won the natty.)

ACC - (5) Clemson (1), Florida State (3), Miami (1)
B1G - (5) Michigan (1), Nebraska (2), Ohio State (2)
Big 12 - (2) Oklahoma (1), Texas (1)
PAC 12 (1) - USC (1)
SEC (12) - Alabama (5), Auburn (1), Florida (3), LSU (2), Tennessee (1)

In the PAC realistically it's Washington and USC with the best chances. They don't play each other in the regualr season so if they both make the CCG the winner should make the playoff. Washington has the last of their trash OCC schedules and a favorable conference schedule with Stanford the only real test with Oregon possibly being able to give them a game. USC has a better OCC schedule (Tejas, Notre Dame, Western Mich) and has the tougher conference games at home.

So, you think Washington is the only PAC 12 school besides USC that can win a natty in the next several years? The other 12 are just along for the ride?

The only OTHER teams that I see having the potential to win a natty in each conference are:

ACC - UNC, Va Tech
B1G - Penn State
Big 12 - None
PAC 12 - Washington, Stanford
SEC - Georgia

I think Peterson will keep the Huskies at the level where they are in the hunt. He's out recruiting everyone except USC in the PAC . With a little luck they could be in a title game one of these days. Stanford will stay a top 10 team most years with Shaw there. They recruit the lines great and always have good linebackers but they don't and haven't had depth at the skill positions to put them over the top. Thats why Luck had to throw to three TEs the whole time he was there. UCLA is the reverse of Stanford. They get plenty of skill players but lack depth on the lines and linebacker. The difference is Shaws a much better coach than Mora. Utah usually has the best defensive players because of the amount Polynesians in the area but their offense isn't usually up to par. They get a new O coordinator this season so we shall see. Cant tell what Oregon will be like . They have recruited pretty good to start off the Taggert era but we dont even know what their offense will look like and if he can get the defense to be at least decent.

Yes.

Stanford is the only wild card outside of those two for the next few years. No other team outside of those three have both rosters with enough meat on it to contend, and the coaching chops to get there.

I would put USC as the favorite to get one because of their depth. It cannot be matched or even approached by any other team in the Pac. UW gets to hang around that list because Petersen adds that level of credibility, even if he hasn't ever actually coached in, more or less won, a national title game.

If the Ducks are going to become dangerous again I would bet it will take a few years and I'm not buying that Taggart can go that far until I see it.

Mora hasn't been able to put it all together. Like ever.

Leach will never have the talent and depth to get it done, more or less is he a national championship caliber coach himself.

Whittingham is a steady coach, but they too will never have the depth.

Graham? Rich Rod?

Both of these teams have already shown that they can do it with just a couple of breaks going their way they would have had a chance already.

Heck yeah a lot can happen in 25 years. But history indicates it will be more of the same. Only 14 teams have won a natty in the past 25 years. Odds are those 14 continue to win the majority of the next 25 nattys. Who do you think can join the natty club that is not already in it?

A National Championship...in college football in this instance.

Of the 64 P5 teams, 14 of them own the last 25 national championships.

The last teams outside those 14 to win one are:
1991 Washington (Co champs with Miami)
1990 Colorado, Georgia Tech
1988 Notre Dame
1986 Penn State

...and the last non P5 to win one was BYU in 1984.

25 years is a long time. As of now I'd say for the PAC it would be in no particular order:

USC, Washington, Stanford, and Oregon but again anything can happen.

The reason I can't put Oregon on that list is because they couldn't get it done when they had literally everything lined up for them to do so and had the greatest coach in school history there so I have to be skeptical they can do it now with all the changes. Not impossible, but very hard to like them for that kind of leap in the near term. Win the Pac? Sure. Several other teams I might put down with that kind of chance. Beating at least two other strong top 4 teams on their way to a title? No way.

Fail to follow instructions...you pick teams that HAVEN'T won a natty lately...if at all. Only Michigan State and TCU meet that criteria.
