(a)Nathan Smith... Grew up playing with him, he's kinda like a modern day Bobby Jones now. He's won the US Mid Am 3 times getting to play the Masters 3 times as a result. He was actually playing with Arnold Palmer for Arnie's last competitive round at Augusta... Turns out that day that Nathan needed to birdie #18 to make the cut but it didn't happen. That was the closest that he came to making it cut at Augusta. I wasn't aware that he was playing till this morning. I'm trying to figure out why or how he got the invite now.

Pretty cool though.

He got dq'd in rd 2 because he played from out of bounds without realizing it. Interesting, wish I knew the details further.

Had not read that an on course official had given him the green-light... That's crap. Didn't think they could take it back like that. He was obviously asking..

I'm curious as to how it wasn't a clear decision. I don't recall ever being confused about it. Were there no stakes or markers?

They did it to Woods in the Masters last year on 15 I believe.

I didn't recall that. Tiger discussed his drop along the line of travel into the hazard and an official rubber stamped such a morbidly simple breach of the rules?

Woods didnt have an official right there.

I thought some official told him his drop was correct and so he signed his card. Then they came back later and said "oops. what we told you was wrong, you get dinged two shots because we are idiots".

Lets think about this.... Even if Tiger had an official right there who told him it was fine at the time then they overruled it later, it wouldn't have been a stroke and distance penalty. He could have simply added a stroke to his card at the end of the round and the card would have been correct.

In the case of Nathan, nothing could be done because he would have had to go back and re-tee. By the time they reversed the decision, there was nothing that could be done because of him having to re tee and play 3 from the tee.

I guess an on course official really isn't the hear all be all that I thought they were.
