Red Sox magic number down to 1 no thanks to them. Thank you Tampa! Could clinch before they even take batting practice with the Blue Jays/Yankees playing a Friday afternoon game.

Cardinals loss officially eliminates them from postseason play. Back to back years without a playoff appearance for the first time since 2007/2008 and only the second time this millennium.

Stanton hits HRs number 58 and 59. Without any true races left, this could be the story of the weekend.

Indians win moves them to a magic number of 2 to clinch homefield throughout the playoffs.

Brewers get a must win to stay alive going into the final weekend. 2 down with 3 to play. Come on Brewers, I want bonus baseball on Monday!

Okay so you are referring to 2013 when they won the World Series?

how does winning a World Series make it so they didn't limp into the post season? That's all I am saying... They just stopped playing during the last few weeks of the season

You don't have to exaggerate to try to make a point. They went 5-6 in the last couple weeks of the season because they had a 9-game lead. They threw Allen Webster the last game of the year because homefield was wrapped up. It didn't make sense to go all out that last weekend in 2013. Would have been stupid to do so. And the week leading up to the last weekend, when they still had homefield to play for, they won 3 of 4.

Red Sox in 2013 went 15-6 in the 21 games leading up to the final 2 games of the year, when homefield was wrapped up.

"stopped playing the final few weeks"

2014 and 2015 they weren't in the postseason...

So two of your examples of "squeaking into the postseason" are two years where they weren't playing in the postseason?

ok, "like always" was poor wording on my part... I agree with that.. Just mean regular season

Though playing poorly down the stretch did prevent them from getting to the post season but that's besides the point
