He really is incredible. If he remains relatively healthy does he have a shot at the all time record? The fact it's even a possibility in today's game is wild.

I think 894 is still out of reach, but never count out the Russian dope doctors :D

A couple years ago I thought he'd probably make the top 3 all time, but didn't have much chance to reach Gretzky. But now I don't know. He could have injuries and not even make the top 5 still. But let's assume he's relatively healthy this year and pots 30 more and next here he puts home 45 goals. The all-time list would then look like this going into the 2020 season with Ovechkin just turning 35...

1. Wayne Gretzky 894
2. Gordie Howe 801
3. Jaromir Jagr 766
4. Brett Hull 741
5. Marcel Dionne 731
6. Phil Esposito 717
7. Alex Ovechkin 711 (currently at 636 goals)

He would have to average 30.5 goals a year from 35-40 years old to catch the Great One. Or he would have to play 9 more seasons into his early 40s as Jagr did and average 20.3 goals a year. Both seem unlikely, but I wouldn't say those are difficult to imagine either. I also do think that Ovechkin has continued to evolve the way he scores goals and that makes it more of a possibility. Especially if Backstrom and Kuznetsov continue to center him and he continues to get 90-100 minutes each power play.

Former Calgary Flame Jaromir Jagr scored 177 goals from the season he turned 35 and onward, and he wasn't even in the league for 3 years.
