I thought the Giants' policy was that they only retire numbers of guys who are in the Hall of Fame. Is this the FO's way of saying the voters are stupid?

That’s what M&M basically said when it was announced this AM.

I think they are just realizing that Bonds is a special case.

The big question, though, is does this opens the door to Will or Timmeh...

It does kinda open the flood gates.... potentially.... but the Giants haven't been afraid to touch 22 and well 55 isn't exactly one guys clamor for.

I think this is a different case all together TBH

I think the 22 dreams are dead. He hasn’t played for the Giants in 25 years.

I PERSONALLY don’t see 55 as a retireable number, but I am an old fart. But I do think he has at least as strong of an argument as Will. He was the face of the first trophy. That is yuge.

Yeah that's what I'm saying, Clark isn't getting his retired and the fact that they keep handing out his number is likely proof, even if they break their own rule.

Lincecum is a different animal. His time was so short, but as impactful as some of the best for the Giants ever. That said, I doubt he gets it either but I think there's the slimmest of chances. We won't really know until he retires, which may not be for some time....

So that explains what happened to me today. I was in the car this PM and turned on the radio and hear "... and 25 was also the number of his father, Bobby Bonds, who dies several years ago. Now, off to a commercial break".

And I thought "WTF did I just miss???" Now I know ;)

Are you saying that, for once, you learned something from another poster here, and not the other way around? :faint:

Hey, it's like me being wrong - it happens once every couple of years... :pound:

It would be interesting if they made it a dual ceremony for that number. I'll bet Barry would like that.
