I hated giving up Glasnow... His stuff is incredible.. He is one tweak away from being absolutely unhittable
Eh. He's had three years and has yet to put it together. Even then he wasn't used in high leverage situations or seemed to be on the rotation grid. Could very well hit that ceiling but it was harder and harder to see it happening with the Pirates.

I do like that they control both of these pitchers for years to come... That was incredibly smart....

I am old enough to remember the Expos trading for Mark Langston and the tall Lanky reliever they gave up with the unhittable fastball who needed to work on his control was........

The Big Unit.

I know that is lofty... I see Glasnow as having that kind of Talent.
Heck on the Bucco front the Zane smith trade giving up Alou.

What is sad they could have had Archer and Cole then Tailon, Nova and Williams. Yeah no Moran but Freese would have been that same until Hayes was ready.

That rotation would have been one of the best. Too bad none of us would have know they would have been buyers This year.

side note a friend of mine in San Fran stated the rumor was the Pirates inquired on McCutchen. When he clears waivers if the pirates are still in it don’t be surprised he is back.

I think Liriano would be a really solid add to the bullpen. Middle relief/lefty specialist. I think he is only making around $1M this year.
It has been a while seeing you on here also. :suds:
Exciting seeing the Pirates do something for once!

Hmm, I just thought of something. Our tv deal is over after next season I think. That is a good reason to try to open a playoff window for a few years.

Well we are going to see what happens soon. I bet we dont do much. Pick up a Nova/Happ starter from an AL team and maybe trade Harrison.

"I bet we don't do much"

I felt the same way however what a surprise!!!!! Archer isn't the player he used to be but still an above starter. We are getting the Archer of 2018 not the Archer of 2015. Remember that. So really he's not a No. Maybe Searage can help Archer return to his 2015 form. I hope so.

The Archer of 2018 is still excellent. Don't let the ERA mislead you--he had a rough start to the season, and it's been coming down steadily since, and his peripherals suggest he's not that different a pitcher from the one he was in 2015 (2016, 2017, too). He's just had rough luck on balls in play, more or less.

Archer has four pitches which have posted positive run values. And he throws them all for strikes and whiffs. He's going to be good for the Bucs.

I mentioned Archer's stats look average because of a bad start. I just read he has a 3.00 ERA and sub-2 FIP since May 1. The pitcher he's been for the past three months is an ace.

Ok I agree we disagree about the 2015 Archer. Now don't get be wrong I like the trade. The 2018 Archer still has good stuff. I think Archer will get better for several reasons. 1) Ray Searage will make a few tweaks to make Archer be more consistent with his pitching execution and efficiency. He used to have a nasty slider. 2) This will work alot of wonders also. Finally Archer is leaving those AL hitters friendly ballparks. All in all this should help Archer get back to that 2015 CY top 5 in voting category.

Regardless if we disagree, we are Pirates diehards. Just along as they can continue to win. Just win baby just win.

Only obstacle might be cost. Would the Pirates take that contract back if he is just a 4th OF?

I also saw Watson's name thrown out at as a LOOGY, but that contract again might be the snag.

Yeah that's why i think it was all rumor.

Not sure I want Watson back and yeah that price for a loogy is too much.

We got lucky by not extending McCutchen. He is going to end up signing a 1 year deal this offseason. Its shocking how he went downhill so fast.

Yeah they are lucky. It is amazing and I wonder if doesn't play after this season? I know in past interviews baseball wasn't his passion I wonder if it is not there anymore.

Side note: Just imagine if they sold high on McCutchen a few years back? The problem then is they were winning and that would have looked very bad to the fanbase.
