I trust Alex under Gruden more than any of these rookies right now. That could change. If by some miracle we get a 1st for Kirk this year, I'd really like to spend that on defense. We can't afford to miss with the pick we get for Kirk. Smith, Fitzpatrick, Payne to me are more of a.sure thing at this point than Allen, Mayfield or Jackson.

No argument from me man, I do agree with almost everything that you've written here, however, my concerns about Smith has more to do with his age (33) and contract demands. To me both seem a bit prohibitive.

BTW: early studies by me have not yielded very many positives from this QB draft class...yet!! Still early for me to give an endorsement to any of them at this point. Truly liking the idea of building our defense early in this draft with or without Kirk.

Avoid Landry like the plague. Between this video and his last game blow up, he is nothing but an entitled child with a suspension or two in his future.

I really can't say. Defiantly risk reward here, no doubt.

Agree although I would rather have Landry's talent that looks like suspension there. Watkins had 39 catches for the year and was third among WRs on his team. On a bright note he led the team with 8 TD catches.

Smith at 33 still has two or three years of productive football Sty .... perfect for your draft a QB and tutor him for awhile scenario. :D You didn't give up on that did you.

Beyond your insistence to create an issue then respond to it as if it was one actually made by others, NO, I haven't given up on DRAFTING a ROOKIE and sitting him in order to properly transition today's college players into the NFL.

Who Knew that Smith at 33, with years of NFL experience was not only a rookie, but getting drafted!!

Sty, take your anger management pills brother. Just a little discussion.

I am just not sure what you mean sometimes. Often you say guys are not given the proper transition into an NFL QB position but then declare Deshaun Watson the next Warren Moon after 6 or 7 weeks. :D:pound:

Now, now ... I am just being a Richard and stirring the pot. BTW I am still hoping AJ brings his wife to DC if he ends up here. :wank:

Id still take Watkins just because he offers you a chance at something special. I know what landry gives you and it's not all that exciting.

His best aspect is his run blocking ability. Getting a guy in the 3rd round that could dramatically change the run game is a steal. Reed will miss his 10. Davis can't handle 1st team snaps and Paul is a FA.

Cooley said having a guy like Troy in there who can block and catch would not be the same "tell" as when a pure blocking TE is in or Reed.
Agreed on that front simply because Reed has proven useless as an in-line blocker. Teams know when Reed is on the field, the Skins will either not run his way, pass, or destroy the run play to Reed's side because of his inferior blocking skills. I say, keep selling Fumagalli and I could learn to like him.

Can Gruden devise a run game even if he had everything in place is what I would ask myself if we got a back, Troy, and maybe a LG.

I would have to believe that with a healthy OL, Perine, Thompson & a solid RB from the draft that this team could rush the ball effectively on a consistent basis.

Yep, you expressed your admiration for him in an earlier thread. I think we already have a guy that can get 2.3 catches per game. We need a stud.

Team rushing rank
2011 Bengals 19th
2012 Bengals 18th
2013 Bengals 18th
2014 redskins 19th
2015 redskins 20th
2016 redskins 21st
2017 redskins 28th

I know Jay throws it around a lot, but he has always been middle to bottom of the pack in th run game.

Should we really invest high picks in RBs and lineman if Jay's run scheme is fundamentally broken? I do want Michel though.

I could see him getting released or at the very least a 2019 pick. I know I'm not giving up a 1st or 2nd for a 33 year old QB. Maybe someone else will.

I agree we need a stud. That's why I want Watkins. I'l admit Watkins is significantly riskier but he has wayyy more upside. Landry is a solid but unspectacular 8 yards a catch guy. There's really nothing special about him. He plays hard he's tough and he's a good football player. But he isn't special. Watkins may never return to where he was his second season but he has been a dominant player in the nfl (albeit only briefly) and offers the potential to be a legit #1.
