We lost to the coots last night, 2-3. Fucking walked the lead off hitter in the bottom of the 9th, then threw the ball away trying to pick him off and he advanced to 3rd. Long fly ball to the outfield, runner tags, game over. Mental mistakes killed us last night.

We have 2 more shots at them.

Aggies Lose Frisco Classic Debut

FRISCO, Texas –

The No. 11 Texas A&M Aggies suffered their first loss of the 2018 campaign, dropping a 4-2 decision to the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs at Dr Pepper Ballpark to open play at the Frisco College Classic.

Louisiana Tech’s Tanner Huddleston highlighted the Bulldogs’ four-run sixth inning with a three-run home run.

The Aggies got two hits apiece from Logan Foster and Will Frizzell, but weren’t able to get a runner into scoring position until the seventh inning.

Stephen Kolek (2-1) was saddled with the loss for the Aggies. He allowed two runs on four hits and two walks while striking out five in 5.2 innings.

The Aggies put the tying run on first with two outs in the ninth, but a groundout to first by Michael Helman ended the game.

SCORING SUMMARY

B6 | Dalton Skelton drew a five-pitch walk to start the frame and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt. The Bulldogs broke the scoring seal when Chris Clayton singled through the right side and Skelton slide around the tag of catcher Hunter Coleman at the plate. With two outs, Kaylor Chafin relived Kolek on the mound and issued a six-pitch walk to Parker Bates before yielding the three-run home run by Huddleston. LaTech 4, A&M 0.

T7 | With one out, Hunter Coleman doubled to the gap in right center and with two outs he came around to score on an error when shortstop Skelton’s throw went wide of first on a grounder by Allonte Wingate. LaTech 4, A&M 1.

T8 | Zach DeLoach began the inning with a four-pitch walk. After a lineout by Helman and a groundout by Braden Shewmake, Chris Andritsos drew a five-pitch walk. Foster knocked in DeLoach with a smash at the third baseman for a single. But the Maroon & White were unable to muster further offense in the frame. LaTech 4, A&M 2.

Aggies win against Baylor 5-4 on Day 2 of the Frisco Classic. A&M's final game will be a 11 am start against Cal tomorrow. Wasn't an easy win today since Baylor clawed their way back in the game in the 8th inning.

Noles improve to 10-0, but it was closer today.

Drew Mendoza with a one-out, walk-off single, his 4th hit of the day, gave us a 4-3 win.

Parrish had an excellent outing. 6 IP, 1 hit, 9 k's, 3 BB's 0 runs.
Team combined to fan 15 Asheville players.

UNCA had a 3-spot in the 7th for all their runs, pulling even at 3-3. It stayed
that way until Mendoza's single to centerfield in the bottom of the 9th

Teams finish up tomm at 1pm. UNCA fell to 2-7.

aggies-tamu-baseball-21.jpg

FRISCO, Texas – The No. 11 Texas A&M Aggies pounded out 13 hits and put up multiple runs in four different frames to register a 9-5 victory over the California Bears on the last day of the Frisco College Baseball Classic at Dr Pepper Ballpark Sunday afternoon.

Braden Shewmake paced the Aggies at the plate, going 3-for-5 with one run and two RBI. Zach DeLoach was 2-for-4 with one walk, one run, one double and two RBI. Logan Foster added two doubles and Hunter Coleman batted 2-for-4 with one run. Chris Andritsos knocked in three runs on the day.

Mitchell Kilkenny equaled a career-long in his outing, working 7.0 innings. The junior northpaw yielded two runs on seven hits and no walks while striking out seven to pick up the win.

The Aggies improved to 11-1 on the season.

SCORING SUMMARY

T2 | Tanner Dodson singled up the middle to start the frame and Jonah Davis followed with a two-run dinger to left-center to break the scoring seal. Cal 2, A&M 0.

B2| A leadoff single by Coleman and a double by Foster put two runners in scoring position. Andritsos knocked in both runners with a single to the gap in left-center. Andritsos stole second base and moved to third on a groundout by Baine Schoenvogel and came around to score on George Janca’s single to left-center. A&M 3, Cal 2.

B3 | The Aggies started another inning with the leadoff man reaching, this time Michael Helman singled to left-center and Shewmake singled through the right side. With one out, Foster gapped a double to right-center to knock Helman in and Shewmake scored on a sacrifice fly by Andritsos. A&M 5, Cal 2.

B4 | With one out, Aggie fans got the chant up to “Ball Ten” as Janca and DeLoach each drew four-pitch walks and Helman was hit by a pitch from reliever Erik Martinez. With Arman Sabouri spelling Martinez on the mound, Shewmake bounced a one-hopper off of second base to knock in two with the single. A&M 7, Cal 2.

B8 | Allonte Wingate got things started with a leadoff infield single and an error on Janca’s sacrifice bunt attempt put two runners in scoring position. DeLoach knocked them both in with a gapper to right-center for a double. A&M 9, Cal 2.

T9 | Cal mounted a late rally that came up short. With two outs, pinch-hitters Matt Ruff and Sam Cachola each drew walks of reliever Asa Lacy and pinch-hitter Sam Wezniak launched a three-run home run over the leftfield wall. Lacy finally ended the game, inducing a pop up by Cameron Eden. A&M 9, Cal 5.

NEXT UP

The Aggies host the Northwestern State Demons in a pair of games at Blue Bell Park, including 6:32 p.m. on Tuesday and 3:02 p.m. on Wednesday.

TEXAS A&M QUOTES

Head Coach Rob Childress

On the win...

“I’m proud of the way the guys bounced back after Friday. When you talk about preparing for a regional, if you lose on the opening day, you have to pick yourself up and get back to work. We did that the last two days.”

On Mitchell Kilkenny...

“We didn’t even need to talk about what needed done today. After all the walks yesterday, Mitchell knew we had to pound the zone today. He gave us 7.0 solid innings. He didn’t get rattled by the two run home run. He just went back to work and attacked the zone.”

On the young lineup...

“It’s great when you can have such a young lineup, but when you look up and down the order you don’t think they’re young. We have some very advanced freshmen and sophomores in the lineup and that’s credit to the guys Coach (Justin) Seely has brought in and how hard Coach Seely and Coach (Will) Bolt have worked with them.”
On the tournament...

“We are very impressed with how things were run. It was first class in every way. The atmosphere was outstanding and everyone associated with the tournament did a great job.”

Noles improved to 11-0, on Sunday completing the sweep of Asheville 4-2.

Pollock was super on the mound in his second start.

6IP, 9 K's, 2 hits, 1 unearned run and 2 walks.

Van Eyk was impressive in 3 innings of relief. 1 hit, 1 run, 7 k's 0 BB.

Stranded 11 baserunners. Just can't get a hit at the right time.

Couple of notes...Our starting pitching thru 11 games have a combined 1.04 era.

We have struck out 148 batters in those 11 games. 297 outs and 50% have been k's.
We've got some folks that can throw heat.

The schedule kicks into high gear now.

2 weekday games this week. We host Kansas on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Then Friday we travel to Wake Forest to open our ACC play.

We'll learn a little more about our squad.

My bad.

I wrote that FSU would be playing Kansas Tuesday and Wednesday. (Habit I guess).
We played them tonight and will play tomm night.

We had to come from behind tonight. They jumped all over Harp.
He still went 5 innings though.

Kansas led 5-0 after 3 1/2 innings. We got 1 back in the 4th and then hit them with
a 5-spot, in the 5th to get Karp the win. FSU would go on to plate 4 more over the
next 3 innings to win 10-5.

Karp's line...5 IP, 8 hits, 5 runs, 7 k's and 2 bb's.
Jonah Scolaro 4 IP, 2 hits, 0 runs, 6 k's and 0 bb's.

FSU improved to 12-0
Kansas fell to 8-3

Florida State scored early and often, before emptying their bench in defeating
Kansas 12-7 on Tuesday evening.

FSU had leads of 7-0 and 9-2 after 5 innings., in coasting to their 13th straight
win this season.

Clayton Kwiatkowski got a rare start and was effective for the first 3 innings. 1 hit,
0 runs and 6 k's. But while he has decent heat, he doesn't have a lot of movement
on the ball. In the 4th, he was touched for 2 solo home runs and a basehit before
being relieved by Cobi Johnson. Johnson went 2.2 innings. He walked 1 and gave up 2
hits, one a 2-run dinger. Johnson, also fanned 6 batters.

Hutchingson worked 1.2 innings, giving up 1 run on 3 hits. Walked 2 and struck out 2.

Grady closed out the final 1.1 innings. No runs, no hits and 1 K.

Kansas pitchers walked 8 tonight, hit 2 batters, gave up 11 hits, including 2 home runs and
2 doubles, and committed 5 errors in the field.

Kansas fell to 8-4 on the year.

The #4 ranked 13-0 Seminoles will begin ACC play Friday night when they begin a 3-game
road trip at Wake Forest.

It's such a shame to see just how far UGA's baseball team has fallen. Ever since we lost to Fresno State in the CWS finals what seems like an eternity ago, we've just been awful, and in a state loaded with baseball talent.

Bedford named to Johnny Bench Award Watch List

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Texas A&M junior Cole Bedford was identified as one of the top catchers in the land as he was named to the 2018 Johnny Bench Award watch list, the Greater Wichita Area Sports Commission announced Tuesday.

Bedford has played in 11 games in 2018, including nine starts, all at catcher. He’s currently batting .235 with four runs, three doubles, one home run, three RBI and two stolen bases. Defensively, Bedford has a 1.000 fielding percentage with one pickoff.

After scuffling as a freshman, Bedford had a breakout campaign in 2017. He played in 52 games as a sophomore, including 44 starts (41 C/3 DH). He ranked fourth on the squad with a .301 batting average, tallying 24 runs, 13 doubles, one triple, three home runs, 26 RBI and three stolen bases.

Bedford was one of five SEC catchers on the list of 97.

The watch list will be narrowed down to a group of semifinalists on May 16. A national voting panel will determine three finalists, which will be announced on June 4. A final vote among the national committee will occur during the College World Series with the winner being announced at the 21st annual Greater Wichita Sports Banquet on June 28.

Noles win ACC Opener 7-3 over Wake Forest.

Did all our damage in 2 innings, plating 2 runs in the 4th and a 5-spot in the 7th.
Wake stayed with their ace, Griffens Roberts, 1 inning too many. Kid is good
and the rest of their staff is so-so, thus you can't really blame the coach.

But it backfired on them tonight. Opened with a single, then a sacrifice followed by
a 2-run Home Run, another 2 singles, before they got him out of there. 2 more hits
plated 3 more runs, 2 belonging to Roberts and that was the ball game.

Sands went 6 for FSU. 2 runs on 5 hits He struck out 9 walked 1 and hit 1.
Scolaro pitched the final 3. He allowed 3 hits, I run, struck out 5 and walked 2.

Roberts of Wake went 6.1. 6 runs on 7 hits. He fanned 10 Walked 5 and hit one
Hearn, Menendez and Witt all followed in relief. Combined they gave up 2 hits, 1 run,
Posted 5 K's and walked 1.

Wake Fell to 5-9 on the season and 0-1 in the ACC.
Noles improved to 14-0 on the year and 1-0 in the ACC.

Because of anticipated bad weather on Sunday the teams will play a doubleheader
tomm, with the first game starting at 2pm and the 2nd 1 hour after completion of the
first game.

Aggies Outduel Long Beach State, 3-1

Aggies Outduel Long Beach State, 3-1

Texas A&M pitchers Stephen Kolek and Nolan Hoffman held the Long Beach State Dirtbags to one run on six hits as the No. 8 Aggies churned out a 3-1 victory to open the series Friday evening on Olsen Field at Blue Bell Park.

ags+lbsu.jpg

Kolek (3-1) fell behind, 1-0, after six pitches, but it would be all he would give up in 7.1 innings. He scattered five runs and two walks while striking out three. Hoffman inherited two runners in scoring position with one out in the eighth and responded with a strikeout of Chris Jimenez and a grounder to short by Brooks Stotler to end the frame. He retired five of the six batters he faced, including three strikeouts, in 1.2 innings to pick up his second save of the season.

The Aggie bats took time go get started, but the Maroon & White ended up with eight hits, including two doubles and one home run. Cole Bedford paced the Aggies with two hits, Logan Foster hit a solo home run and Michael Helman and Braden Shewmake added RBI.

The Aggies improved to 14-1 on the season, including 12-0 at home. The victory ran A&M's home win streak to 14 games. Long Beach State dropped to 5-9 on the year.

SCORING SUMMARY
T1 | Jarren Duran slapped the first pitch of the game down the leftfield line for a double. Duran moved to second on a sacrifice bunt and scored when Jimenez bounced a single up the middle to give the Dirtbags a lead after just six pitches. LBSU 1, A&M 0.

B7| With one out, George Janca poked a 2-2 pitch up the middle A hard hit ball by Zach DeLoach resulted in a lineout to centerfield and it looked like the Aggies' might misfire with a runner on base for the sixth consecutive inning. Helman would have none of it, driving a first-pitch offering down rightfield line for a game-tying double. An error on the relay throw by second baseman Duran allowed Janca to move to third and it would prove costly as Shewmake followed with a laser that fell in front of the rightfielder to score Janca with the go-ahead run. A&M 2, LBSU 1.

B8 | Foster gave a rude greeting to reliever Eli Villalobos, launching his first pitch of the game 416 feet over the fence in left-center for his second home run of the season. A&M 3, NSU 1.

NEXT UP
The Aggies and Dirtbags return to action Saturday with a 2:02 p.m. first pitch.

TEXAS A&M QUOTES
Head Coach Rob Childress
On Shewmake's game-winning hit after going 0-for-6 last game…
"He's got a hitter's heart. He is going to keep swinging and he is going to get his. Certainly his one hit tonight couldn't have been bigger. He gave us the lead and he played amazing defense all night."

On the Friday-night battle…
"That's exactly what it was, a Friday night fight and two great pitchers and they certainly scratched first. Stephen [Kolek] kept the game close the rest of the night and we played great defense behind them."

Sophomore SS Braden Shewmake
On the defense…
"Stephen [Kolek] did a phenomenal job pitching to contact and getting weak contact at that. We, as a whole, played great defense behind [Kolek] when the ball was put in play and we were able to make plays for him. You have to give all the credit to [Kolek] he went out and he battled, they scored a run early but that didn't faze Stephen. He's a competitor."

Junior RHP Stephen Kolek
On the approach tonight…
"It's the same approach as always. I'm just trying to fill up the strike zone and let our defense do their job. They did an excellent job behind me. I wouldn't have been able to get to the seventh without them. They really picked me up."
