Nice win vs the hapless Rays.....Good seeing Sanchez actually hitting a ball where it's pitched.....Outside of the 4 walks, Lasagna looked ok....

Another SHUTOUT loss

I was walking around demanding that Showalter be fired two and half years ago.
It seems like he is immume to criticism. I have just given up on the crusade.

He built a team identity of never walking, never stealing a base, never bunting, always swinging at 3-0.
Whenever the Orioles find someone who can go opposite field, or deep counts, Buck either benches him or runs him off.

The Orioles have scored 10 runs less than every team in the national league with pitchers batting.

HALF-PRICE pizza everywhere in the Baltimore/Washington corridor if the Orioles score 5 runs.
They have failed to reach 5 runs in 18 of their last 19 games. Everyone is losing weight thanks to expensive pizza.
I just read that Baltimore has lost a good relief pitcher to injury. so maybe 110 losses this season?

Didi batting .317 in June

Dirt rush to judgement on Didi happened far too early

The so-called modern era (1900+) record for futility is a .235 winning percentage of the 1916 Athletics.
The integration era (1947+) record for futility is .250 by the expansion team 1960 Mets.

The Orioles are now .275 which is the 7th worst in the last century, but they are actually trending worse lately.
Why the hell does Dan Duquette, Buck Showalter, Chris Coolbaugh, and Roger McDowell all still have jobs?

you have to fire at least one of them, it is insane to just let them keep showing up to work.
It is embarassing for such a proud historic team with a passionate fanbase and all-time great stadium.

Nice Old-Timers' Day game....I was worried that Dion James was going to get hurt playing CF, fell flat on his face on a few plays....They should have taken him out and put Ellsbury in as a defensive replacement....

Red Sox pitching staff rankings (all of MLB):
WAR: 2nd
ERA: 4th
ERA+: 3rd
WHIP: 5th
FIP: 2nd
xFIP: 5th
K/9: 3rd
K-BB%: 4th
HR/9: 2nd

Outside of Pomeranz shitting the bed prior to hitting the DL, the pitching has been quite good.

As for the offense...

Runs: 2nd in MLB
SB: 3rd
SB%: t-1st
K%: 5th
BABIP: 13th
wRC+: 3rd
BA: 2nd
OBP: 5th
SLG%: 2nd
HR: 2nd
wOBA: 3rd

The Red Sox do have a pretty noticeable home/road split (.839 OPS at home vs .728 on the road), but the pitching has also been significantly better on the road (3.07 ERA) than at home (3.80).

I dont know much about WAR

But I saw the Red Sox have 3 positions, 2nd/3rd and Catcher, that dont rank in the Top 29 in WAR

Found that interesting

Wonder when all the so called "Experts" will start lining up to praise Derek Jeter for pulling off the greatest executive decision of the modern baseball era, unloading the Giancarlo Stanton albatross contract

Cashman is my guy, think he's the best in the biz, everyone is entitled to their share of mistakes, but Stanton is a big huge whiff

I can only imagine had the Yankees chosen to sign the far cheaper, far better JD Martinez, and the Sox never were able to find that impact bat, it could really be a 10 game swing in the standings right now

Im sure Stanton will still feast on enough bad pitching during the reg season, and end up with 40 HR and maybe close to 100 RBI's, and maybe it helps win the Yanks a division, but I loathe the idea of watching this guy face elite pitching in October....I would not be shocked to see him not in the starting lineup at some point in October, thats how bad he looks against elite pitching

And not the move for Austin. Torreyes was sent down again for Frazier.

Yeah, Toe is on the shuttle of late. These double headers are going to play havoc with the roster.
