It seems to me it is saying we would be his 5th choice according to how those polled thought.

Actually, I think his choice is to sign with us. The problem in doing that seems to be our limited 2018 budget.
If that is the problem why would he have not signed with another club already?

The informal meeting may have gone something like "We don't have the room but we are trying to do some things that might make room"

i keep hearing about this limited budget but i'm not buying that there isn't room for Yu and possibly an outfielder

I really believe if we were contenders there would not be a problem signing him

McCutcheon to SF, which probably affects the market for Lorenzo Cain.

But does likely affect SFG desire for Cain. Heard JD Martinez willing to wait it out. To me prices are being driven down

Cole, now McCutcheon, maybe others. Pittsburgh giving up on 2018 season just before it is about to begin. Rangers in a few months?

And ya know, there really doesn't seem to be any good reason for it. Simply a self imposed ceiling.

Well I am going to suspend judgment on our offseason approach. Ideally you don't go spend on the ace unless you think it puts you over the top. If you can pick up a Yu bargain then please spend. Now just as we moved Yu at the deadline the this could happen again. Was told Hamels value is down and may do better to justify a move if we a r enoncontenders. To me though, I would not want to miss Darvish due to keepin Hamels

Buying or Selling to get prospects may not be the only options. Standing pat while exercising patience may be the best move for now. Seems like a few other clubs are not rushing into some of the top FAs out there

Room in your eyes or room in JD/Davis and company's eyes?

The only problem with their philosophy in doing that is that once we are close to being contenders there may not be an ace to sign.

To me we have about 6 areas that need improving and ace is one of those. It should be a 2 year process at least to fix all 6. If there is an ace available now then I say go after him. You are going to need him eventually. Maybe it isn't conventional, but thinking outside the box might just help us to contend faster than we would otherwise.

Not talking about down the line. Today, we would sign him in a heart beat if we were serious contenders in 2018. Money is available if they want yu imo

wanting to rid the Rangers of Choo and actually doing it isn't going to be as easy as some think it will be

Our best bet with Choo is sink-or-swim. Put him back at the top of the order to start the season. Hope he can do well for a few months and try to trade him, with the best hope that he has a good OBP and we have to eat less of his contract to get him off the books.
