Cool to see Kennesaw State make the playoffs so soon after starting their football program.

Have a lot of friends that went there.

I think Jacksonville State can make a run.

James Madison all the way. I'd love for an upset, but I think James Madison runs the tables this year.

This certainly suxxx.
24 team playoff--- 10 auto-bids, 14 at large.
One auto-bid team in with a 5-6 record

At large
5 teams with a 7-4 record
4 teams with an 8-3 record

McNeese finished with a 9-2 record and didn't get a bid. They finished with a higher SRS rating(whatever the fuck that is) than 5 of the at large teams'

So, FUCK the ncaa because they certainly fucked McNeese.

Anyway, I'll go with J. Madison, but certainly not counting out NDSU.

What was the rationale for leaving them out?

That's a tough one to figure, just going by the ranking/rating. McNeese did have a weak schedule, but that SRS put them higher than 5 other teams. Three teams from the SLC made it and McN. lost to two of them and didn't play the other one. However, one conf. has 4 in and another has 5 in. To leave out a 9-2 team is puzzling. in a 24 team playoff. If this was the old 16 team playoff, I could understand not making the playoffs, but not 24 teams.

I can give you a guess why they were left out.

The Southland members do not play every member of the league.
McNeese didn't play Sam Houston and Nicholls St didn't play C. Ark.

McNeese and Nicholls St tied for 3rd place in the league with 7-2 records.
Nicholls beat McNeese 37-35.

The committee must have believed that the Southland wasn't worthy of a 3rd at-large
spot and gave the 2 at-large spots to Nicholls St based on their head-to-head win, and Sam
Houston State (that is seeded). Central Ark was the league champ and is seeded.

Of the 8 teams seeded...Only 6 were Conf Champs. (Thus the conf champs that weren't seeded
would get an at-large spot)

May have to make it to a few of the UCA playoff games. They have a damn good team this year.

Would probably beat the Hogs.

There are a number of FCS conf. that are this way. Big Sky has 13 teams. a few more have 12. Some play only 8 conf games, some play 9. So this isn't the reason.
Just with a 24 team field, a 9-2 team shouldn't be left out, when that team has higher ranking and rating than 5 teams with at large bids, and with 5 teams with a 7-4 record. I explained all this in the other post.
The best thing to do is win your conference, then you don't have to worry about what numbers are used to get an at large bid.
So, wait till the 1st Saturday in Sept. and start over. Try to be a better 9-2 team next season than they were this season.

Conference Champs get an auto-bid(not an at large bid) and that's it. Does not guarantee a higher seed or home game. Once the teams are decided, they are seeded by the ranking/rating, conf. champ or not

I know, but the conf champs that weren't seeded, got at-large bids.

3 of the 10 leagues do not even participate in the Playoffs. Ivy League has never
been in the pre-season. The MEAC and SWAC do not participate but send their champs
to the Celebration Bowl. Thus that creates at least 1 openings for one of the 8 seeds.

The Conf Champs do get an at-large spot in the playoffs if they are not a seed. That's how
5-6 Lehigh got their spot. Lehigh upset Colgate and was the Patriot Champ. Patriot is a
one-bid league. Colgate got left out...Lehigh was in.

Pioneer League champ isn't a seed but they got in as an at-large and that is a non-scholarship
league.

MVC took 5 total spots. That's 20% of all the bids. They've been a tough league all year long.

McNeese would have been in if they hadn't lost to Nichols. Actually, if they hadn't lost to
Nichols they would have been in a 3-way tie for the title.

All I was doing is guessing as to why they didn't make it. The best guess is, the committee didn't
believe the Southland was worthy of a 4th spot and because they lost to Nichols, Nichols got the nod.
