Not sure if you guys is into Davis Cup much but damn good semi finals this weekend as Great Britain vs Argentina which means at some point this weekend, we should get Andy vs Del Po in a best of 5. Interested to see who Britain go with as their 2nd singles player. Evans and Edmund are very close in the rankings (53 and 55)

Yeah I've been watching Davis Cup for the past few years.

I'll record the matches, but won't have time to watch until the beginning of next week.

Ok, I called the US Open asking about their size.

When going through the recorded greeting, I was getting nervous, because it didn't sound like their business hours would be open today.

The greeting said "IF it's our normal business hours, then please wait for the next attendant".

IF??? The greeting should tell you whether today is a business hour day, or if it's not.

I waited for about 2 mins, and someone answered the phone.

I asked for the size of the BJK NTC. They said they'd transfer me to the "Command Center" and that they might know.

I then asked the person at the Command Center. He said he would transfer me to Guest Services. I said "No, I was just transferred from there. Is there anyone you can ask, or anyone I can email, that might know?"

He then put me on hold.

A few minutes later, he came back and said 46.5 acres.

46.5 acres = 2,025,540 square feet.

So the size of Melbourne Park + Olympic Park is 2x the size. Interesting. Yes, it would be best if I could isolate just Melbourne Park, but that would be more difficult to find out. I'm just glad to have found some info.

From looking at a map, the BJK NTC does look spacious, so I can only imagine what Melbourne Park must feel like.

Wimbledon and the FO haven't returned my emails. I will have to keep trying. Since they're international, I can't call them. Or maybe I could if I was willing to pay an international phone call.

I also asked those places about the grounds pass question, so there's a few things they have to get back to me on.

@bksballer89 , @Old Lion , @ill

Any thoughts about this info?

Pictures of the Pliskova twins.

I like how their baby outfits say "POW!" on them. That would be symbolic of how they'd hit a tennis ball, later in life.

Melbourne Park contact form.

I will do the same as for Roland Garros, and also ask if a ticket to Rod Laver stadium includes a grounds pass.

Contact | Melbourne & Olympic Parks

Answer from Australian Open:

+++++++++++

Thank you for your enquiry.

Yes, if you purchase an arena ticket (Margaret Court Arena and Rod Laver Arena) that acts as a Ground Pass. However it depends on whether you have a ticket for the day time or night time. If you purchase an evening ticket to any of the Arenas you will only be able to access the grounds from the start of the evening session. Same applies to the Day time session.

Hisense Arena is a General Admission Arena and is accessible for anyone with a Ground Pass.

Please refer to the Australian Open website for further information - Home 2017 - Australian Open

Thank you,

Bianca

The Roland Garros form wants to know my birthday. They better not spam me.

Email sent.

(Replace relevant details with the AO details, for the AO email.)

I also sent emails to Wimbledon and the USTA for the size question.

+++++++++

Hi,

I have a few questions about attending Roland Garros during the French Open.

1) If I buy a ticket to Philippe Chatrier court, does that also include a grounds pass? Can I also watch matches on other courts?

What about Suzanne Lenglen court?

2) Approximately how many square feet, acres, or square meters is the entire Roland Garros tennis complex? I'm just curious how the sizes of the facilities at the four majors compare.

Thank you.

Bumping this.

Last year, I got answers as to whether a pass to Rod Laver or Margaret Court also include a Grounds Pass. They do.

I also got answers to the size of the AO and USO.

I never got a response from the email I sent to Roland Garros. So I will send another email, probably tonight.

Roland Garros contact form.

I will also ask them whether tickets to Chatrier includes a grounds pass.

I emailed Roland Garros again using the contact form just now.

I also sent the same questions to the Roland Garros Facebook PM.

This was the email.

Here was Roland Garros' email answer:

Apparently they can't tell me if a ticket to Philippe Chatrier will include a grounds pass.

I will ask them what it was for 2017.

We are sorry to inform you that we do not have information about the 2018 offers yet.

However, we can confirm to you that the stadium area is 8.5 hectares

We stay at your disposal for any further information that you might need.

So to compare:

The size of Melbourne Park and Olympic Park together is 40 hectares.

1 hectare = 107,639 sq ft.

40 hectares = 4,306,000 square feet.

French Open:

8.5 hectares = 914,932 square feet

US Open:

46.5 acres = 2,025,540 square feet.

Look at the spreadsheet here comparing basketball arenas.

Does that mean RG is only as big as a basketball stadium? That doesn't seem right.

Once more, with feeling: KeyArena will never be a suitable NBA arena again

New Roland Garros Response:

+++++++++++++++++

We confirm to you that, this year, a ticket for Philippe Chatrier court included a ticket for all outside courts but it did not allow you to visit the other main courts (Suzanne Lenglen and Court N°1).

We stay at your disposal for any further information that you might need.

Kind regards,

Mélissa

So the AO, RG, and USO seem to have similar policies.

@bksballer89 , here's Wimbledon's response:

+++++++++++++

A Centre Court ticket allows you access to Centre Court and Court 3 - 19. It will not give you access to No.1 or No.2 Court.

Isn't that similar to other majors? If you have a ticket to one show court, you don't have access to the other show courts (Courts 1 or 2). But, they did say that you get access to the outside courts (courts 3 - 19). So then isn't that like a grounds pass too?

I don't think so. I think at the US Open if you have tickets for example Armstrong or Grandstand, you can still get into the other courts (excluding Ashe) but it will be on a first come first serve basis. I could be wrong though

Wimbledon:

Church Road site: 13.5 acres.

Plus car parks: 42 acres

42 acres = 1,829,520 square feet.

So Melbourne Park and Wimbledon (including parking) are about the same size.

Ok, I asked a follow up, whether having access to Court No. 1 gives you access to courts 3 - 19, and whether having access to court No. 2 also gives you access to courts 3 - 19.

If it does, then that will be like the USO, right?

Me:

Thank you. Will a ticket to court No. 1 also give me access to courts 3 - 19? And will a ticket to court No. 2 give me access to courts 3 - 19?

Wimbledon:

Yes that is correct.

Thanks

Magda

Ok, now the Wimbledon ticket experience seems good, right?
