Maybe this should have been started before spring training, but better late than never. Two former Giants in the news today:
1. Pablo Sandoval put on the disabled list with a mysterious shoulder issue - DL stop adds to Sandoval's early-season woes
2. Michael Morse designated for assignment by the Pirates - World Series star Morse designated by Pirates

I saw both of those today. Hope Morse lands somewhere.

Panda with a "mysterious" shoulder issue. Too much food on that fork, he strained it.

Romo going to have an MRI on his elbow...doesn't sound serious but this may be the move that gets JPark or Gorkys back up to the big club.

IMHO, we would be more in need of a pitcher still. PV is a pretty serious issue.

We have Posey...

Seriously, though, we are currently at 13, so replacing Romo with a pitcher is not required, even assign Romo IS hurt and needs a DL stint.

But then why are we at 13 in the first place?

Because it is early in the season and the pitchers aren't stretched out yet. And Gearrin forced the issue.

This is not a new concept.

I understand this is not a new concept - it has been a frequent source of discussion in recent years.

Is there a crying need for a 5th outfielder, or is Parker or Mac or anyone else in the minors ripping it up so that we feel compelled to promote them? (No and no, IMHO.)

Even Bum has pitched only 11 innings in two starts. Cain has only pitched once, albeit quite well.

There is no urgency to bring up a position player. I see much more urgency to keep the pitching roster at 13.

I think keeping Pagan and Span rested is as much, if not more important than having the extra arm. And having too many arms on the roster can lead to the guys getting stale. going from 12 to 13 and back throughout the season, I think, is a good exercise.

I'm with Mays here.

There were two points to carrying 13 pitchers. One, they didn't want to lose Gerrin. Two, they only have two off days from the start of the season to May 15th. I think that was the target date to carry 13 pitchers, and after that evaluate where they stood. If Romo went down, Broadway would for sure come up, IMO.

Romo is officially going on the DL:

I still think they go with another reliever in this stretch. Law or Broadway the likely choices.

Mac is hot right now and could be called upon. Parker is ice-cold and will probably stay down. Any infielder would have to be added to the 40-man roster.

I doubt it will be an infielder, but if it is, the 40 issue is not a problem. They can place Gardeck on the 60.

I agree, and it would be a waste when they have that in their back pocket.
Not sure about that one guys. Word is Panik, Crawford and Adrianza are all banged up. Makes the infield pretty thin.

Bochy must agree with you. He's said he's sticking with 13 pitchers for a while
 Bullpen has hardly been taxed. Maybe he doesn't plan on letting his starts continue to go deep? Or feels Peavy and Cain will get worse for each start.

His reasoning is that his bench isn't short, so why change it.
