Our guys are nowhere near this level. Not nearly quick enough and far less polished in their decision making.

I know. But Chile has gone from the 80's to the top 5 while America has been in a stalemate with itself for years.

Pretty sure we were a top 10 team based on Fifa rankings at some point

Just checked. We were ranked #4 in the Fifa rankings in 2006. At the end of the day Fifa rankings doesn't mean much if you can't make a deep run in the World Cup. These tourneys are nice to win but doesn't mean much in the long run if Chile can't make a really deep run 2 years from now in Russia.

I know a specific ranking at a certain point in time doesn't matter but when your are continually ranked high that's when it starts to matter.

I mean it depends. The thing about fifa rankings is that it takes into account friendly matches as well. A lot of time in our friendly matches lately, we've been experiencing with different players and formations so results wasn't always the greatest.

Also we were ranked one spot ahead of Chile heading into the 2014 World Cup. We were 13th and they were 14th. Both teams were eliminated in the round of 16. Since then both teams played in 2 major tournaments. We made it to the semi finals of both tournaments while they won both tournaments. We're fine. In reality we're probably a top 15 or top 20 team which I'm ok with
