Norris and Ubaldo Jimenez must have swapped places from last year. Ubaldo has looked good thus far minus his ridiculous ejection. Bud stunk in ST and nothing has changed thus far. Gausman isn't a current answer yet either. Perhaps when Manny starts hitting, and Hardy's bat is back the Orioles can score 8 runs a game and beat the opponents by an avg score of 8-7 :)

p/s I'd add Matt's bat to that list but honestly I think Caleb is a good catcher from what I've seen.

Bud Norris is the 2015 version of the 2014 Ubaldo Jimenez! Now showing in theaters near you, Trading Places 3, starring Bud Norris and Ubaldo Jimenez.

How about putting Bud in the long reliever role and trying out Gausman in the rotation?

sounds good to me . this team needs nolan more than nolan need us . today nolan double in the first 1 out scored on a bloop hit on his strikeout the ball before it was a homer that hooked foul by inches . dearza is pie

The only worry I'd have about Nolan is those injury concerns. I really hope he can finally put together a full season without any injuries. I disagree about De Aza somewhat. This year, yeah, he definitely has regressed quite a bit but just from what we got from him last year already makes him more valuable than Felix Pie ever was.

nolan is a difference maker and dearza makes bone head plays (pie) lough is trash . pearce i still think his bat is slow and has an wrist problem . young is doing well but i would rather have nolan flying around than this dull ass offense . young they like to say he is fast at first 40 feet . no way he can beat nolan to first or score from first on a double .

I hate to say it and definitely hope that I'm wrong but just looking at this team so far, I don't really see a team that is going to really contend for any type of title, much less a playoff spot. Losing Cruz and Nick obviously has hurt the offense quite a bit. And of course, our pitching staff is littered with back of the rotation guys right now (barring Tillman, who imo, would be a 2 or a 3 on a solid team). This joke of an offseason this past year has definitely hurt us and I don't see the next one being any better since we could lose Wieters and Davis along with others. It just sucks that we don't have a farm system like Tampa has had where we could have guys just coming out of nowhere replacing the top talent.

we have a farm that could but unlike the rays we don't give them a true shot . look at caleb the man has done everything we could ask for and yet they tried every retread before they went with caleb . we go tj instead of wright , berry , wilson . by next year it will be the coming of wilson , wright , berry , kline , bundy , gausman and harvey . save nolan we owe him a true shot .

Can anyone explain what's wrong with this team?

Offense in April 2015: 1st in the AL in OPS (0.827)
Offense in May 2015 so far: 13th in the AL in OPS (0.649)

For comparison, the Orioles' pitching actually improved in May in terms of ERA: It's 4.78 in April (13th in the AL), vs. 3.13 in May so far (4th in the AL).

Offense: Hot starts by De Aza, Schoop, Snider, Jones, Caleb, etc were unsustainable. Pearce and Hardy were supposed to make up for it, but they haven't so far. Buck keeps on platooning Snider even though he has reverse splits.

Chris Davis has not been able to carry the team like Nelson Cruz did last year. Davis only seems to do well against poor starters and middle relief guys.

Pitching: Plenty of upside from Bud and Tillman's starting slots. Chen and Gonzo's performance can be sustained since they already did that 2nd half of last year. Bullpen has settled down, but is not outstanding.

And the Orioles enter the all-star break with a 0.500 record. How bad is this relative to other recent reasons after 88 games?

2015: 44-44, 4.0 GB (if the result of NYY-BOS holds); 387 RS, 348 RA, expected record = 48-40
2014: 48-40, 2.0 GA; 385 RS, 362 RA, expected record = 46-42
2013: 48-40, 5.5 GB; 424 RS, 400 RA, expected record = 46-42
2012: 46-42, 8.0 GB; 361 RS, 404 RA, expected record = 40-48

Notice that the Orioles were more of a "lucky" team than a "good" team in 2012-14 from the standpoint of run differential, while the 2015 case is the exact opposite. I think this team can still try to contend for the remainder of the 2015 season... but they'll need a 2012-like hot streak to have a realistic chance.

(Oh, and for the record... in 2011, they were 36-52 after 88 games, with 355 RS and 454 RA for an expected record of 34-54. So, you could argue that the 2015 Orioles are merely mediocre rather than horrible.)

Why does Buck use O'day - Tillman is pitching a great game and walks a guy - big deal. O'day is ineffective s usual and costs the Os another must win game - not to mention last year's series against KC.

Tigers fan here, made the road trip to Baltimore and went to Sunday's game, thankfully saw a win and the bullpen didn't get demolished as usual. Really enjoyed the stadium and the area, very cool hangouts and bars and a beautiful park, great fans too, best of luck to your O's the rest of the season :suds:

Here's a comparison of the Orioles' performance after 108 games in recent seasons:

2015: 55-53, 6.0 GB; 475 Runs Scored / 426 Runs Allowed (+49 Run Differential), Expected record = 59-49
2014: 61-47, 2.5 GA; 454 RS / 423 RA (+31 RD), Expected record = 57-51
2013: 59-49, 5.5 GB; 498 RS / 429 RA (+69 RD), Expected record = 56-52
2012: 57-51, 6.5 GB; 444 RS / 501 RA (-57 RD), Expected record = 48-60
2011 (for comparison): 43-65, 24 GB; 444 RS / 577 RA (-133 RD), Expected record = 41-67

Realistically speaking, I think 2015 is trending toward 2013: Still a winning season, but only barely.

Might as well tank the rest of the reason for a better 1st-round draft pick? 62-100 should be enough to pass the Phillies for dead last. (/s)

(Seriously, though... this season is pretty much the antithesis of 2012. Just look at the disparity between run differential and actual record-- the Orioles currently have 6 fewer wins in reality relative to their expected record.)
