I never used to mind since it seemed like the host losing out early was pretty rare and a host not winning its league usually didn't perform well in the Memorial Cup anyway, but it seems like a lot of hosts in recent years have been losing early in the playoffs and then doing better in the Memorial Cup as well, so I have also started to dislike the format. I know it's probably not going to change, the Memorial Cup has become too much of a cash cow for the CHL, but I think a 3 team champions only tournament with a double round robin (to maintain the 6 round robin games) would be better, with the semi-final acting as the tiebreaker does now, and just the top 2 playing a single game championship if the semifinal is not needed.

I like this. It would be interesting to see how ticket sales were affected at a neutral site.

another beat down tonight
St John 7 - Seattle 0
oddly, shots were 31-28 Seattle
and 6 of SJ's goals came on 14 shots in the 2nd period

Took Seattle 40 years to get here
0-3, outscored 18-3 in those games.

Great to see the Sea Dogs finally get a win. I don't think they just needed to win that game but after last night I think they needed to win big to restore some confidence and get their game back. The question is whether or not they actually stepped it up a notch from previous games or if they were simply facing a weaker opponent. Possibly a bit of both.

After spending much of the post-season waiting for the winner of a match-up. they now find themselves in the unusual situation of waiting for the loser between tomorrow's Windsor vs. Eerie matchup. I still think it's Eerie's tournament to lose but Windsor might be able to pull off the upset.

Well after getting bounced in the first round of the OHL playoffs, it looks like the host Spitifres are on their way to the finals. They are leading Eerie 4-1 late in the 3rd.

So the Spits have won a grand total of 6 playoff games this post-season (all other three teams had won 16 playoff games coming into this tourney) and they are 60 minutes away from a Memorial Cup championship. That still isn't enough to attract fan interest, however.

I really hope that Thomas Chabot isn't staying up watching the Sens go into doubt OT (and counting). He likely has another 30+ minute game tomorrow in the semis. One Cup at a time Thomas!

The Sea Dogs are very lucky to be tied after that 2nd period. They can think both special teams and their goalie Callum Booth for that.

As a fan it is very frustrating and is absolutely mind-boggling how bad this team lacks discipline and that they never seem to learn. It has cost them games during the regular season to weaker teams, then they lose 12-5 to the OHL champs who came into this game with a PP over 50% for the tournament and they still take quite a few stupid, needless penalties against that same team in an elimination game. :L

Well, it's an all OHL final for the Memorial Cup on Sunday as the Otters beat the Sea Dogs 6-3 tonight. It would be kinda funny to see Erie win sans Connor McJesus.

Eerie definitely looks like the best team in this tournament in my opinion. I think they will win the rematch.

I hope Erie wins as well as I expect a huge victory celebration at the Olive Garden to follow.

And Windsor makes the most of their 2nd life and wins the Memorial Cup. The franchise has now won 3 of the last 9 Memorial Cups and 12 consecutive Memorial Cup games.

While I'm not a fan of the host team getting an automatic bid, there's no denying the bolded sentence above is an impressive feat.

I was thinking the same. They got a 2nd life that no other CHL team got and made the most of it.
