2014 Spring practice/game thread

Figured one hasn't gotten started yet, so those with some insight into practices, post up.

Anyone planning on attending the game? The family is planning on making the trip Friday and taking in the jazz concert, then doing the family tailgate at McCommas and probably hitting up Bull and Bones afterwards (need to fill up my growlers).

Eh, I'm not concerned too much. Just be healthy by the start of the season. Dude is a stud and can miss a few reps. The backhalf of that DB depth chart needs more practice anyway.

I'd rather see those two play in a yellow jersey rather than not play at all.

It's gonna be ok guys. My weekend opened up, and I will be in attendance. I'm happy to suit up and take some snaps if needed.... quarterbacks still get to wear the yellow jerseys right?

Got into town around 6:30 tonight and got some 5 Guys and a Victory brewing sampler to finish off the night. Ready for the game and family weekend festivities along with another night in the hotel before heading home on Sunday. See you guys there.

I don't have many takeaways from the game. I think its a stretch for anyone to make any kind of grand statement based on what was out there. There are positives and it was better than last year imo but we've still got a ways to go but I think we all knew that. My thoughts in no order:

-All maroon looked FAB-U-LOUS

-Juice Williams is a ball of muscle. I think everyone was waiting for him to break a big one and were disappointed when he didn't. But he did have some short gains that were impressive because it took like 5 guys to take him down.

-I suppose its because the O-line was shuffled but they mostly got heavily outworked by the defense.

-No QB stood out imo. I heard some buzz post game that most people think Motley is the guy but I think Brewer could easily come in and beat him. Motley did show good quickness but some of those runs would have been sacks in a live game. Plus, I noticed he had a tendency to stare his receiver down quite a bit. Same thing with Leal. Ford didn't get a lot of passing chances but I actually thought he did ok with what he had. Unlike the other two, I saw him going through reads and he took what the defense gave him. He had one throw on a rollout that was ify coming across his body but somehow put it on the receiver's numbers for a short gain. Overall, it didn't seem like any of the QBs were given chances to shine. I was hoping they'd air it out more so we could really see who has a chance but the focus appears to be mostly on the run game.

-Bucky looks good. Toss him in with a healthy Cline and we have a chance for some nifty two TE formations.

-And it was a perfect day in Blacksburg. It was one of those that makes you wonder why the hell anyone would ever leave. You feel sad driving away.
