Beltran 16 mil a year for ages 37, 38 and 39???? I would be happier with 4 year at 12 mil a season...just comes down to what they have to do to counteract the money....it could be good or a disaster...better have something figured out by the end of december.

This somewhat hypothetical deal would tend to indicate Butler is expendable.

Just weird to expect a late 30's guy to hit 25 to 30 hr and .300 when we have a younger version of someone who can do it...but if they trade Butler for an SP and a 2b...it could be a great move...if, if, if.

Eh, and less expensive, it is a salary wash though if we get a valuable player for Butler and shed some salary redundancies in the pen like Davis and Collins.

screw that....Boni and anyone else at back up catcher can provide more offense or at least have more upside or potential of more offense.

Well, you can actually argue against keeping Kottaras if you feel F.Pena gets you roughly .3 WAR in terms of real value along with if you trade Kottaras for Cash Considerations (already done) and then turn around and use that cash to sign a Mark Ellis type of player to get a definitive upgrade at 2nd base. An odd strategy imo (and faulty one, granted, we are talking about green beans when we need a steak to get to the playoffs) when one considers how useful Kottaras was offensively despite his pedestrian batting avg (lol avg). Quite honestly, these rumors looking into Ellis make me wonder what the Royals think of Christian Colon to contribute in 2014.

Hmm, interesting. Not sure what Colorado has in terms of offense that is particularly useful to the Royals in their plans though.

Obviously there are guys like Tulo, but I don't anticipate anything within a price range that is fair or reasonable for either side currently.

I do know they have Wheeler, Parker, Blackman, etc...they are stacked in the OF all through their minor leagues...

I have no idea how MI is...

Agree with you on Colon...I don't think they believe in him...it could just be the 1st round pick dissappointment of not being great...but the guy could be solid.

Cain being a 4th outfielder is dumb, he gets you 2.6 WAR with just defense and baserunning. If his bat ever develops, he is a more valuable version of Ellsbury.

Atm it looks like a Beltran/Aoki platoon

Beltran vs RHP 144 WRC+ (44% above avg)
Aoki vs LHP 120 WRC+ (20% above avg)

The kicker is Aoki needs to be leading off every day for us so this screams Butler trade right now for a Franklin+ prospect.
