Maintenance is more and fixing any big issues is way more. I'm always skeptical on buying older impiets even at a great price because you'll likely end up spending far more on upkeep than you would on a domestic. I'd spend 4k on a Focus long before I spent 4k on a Jetta but that's just me

I don't trust any Ford as far as I can throw it. I'd prefer a Honda but they're proud of those things. I love every honest I've ever owned but any Honda within 10-12 years old with under 150,000 miles on it is up around $5,500 or higher.

Yeah Honda resale on older models is nuts. The price on the Jetta is good. I'd only be wary because you'd probably spend another 4k over the next 3 years in maintaining it. You'd be better off leasing a new one for 3 years. You'd end up spending about the same amount of money and have far fewer headaches

First thing I thought of was... Jettas are chick cars.

Mine's a 2016 and red. I like it. OP should get it so he can look
cute while driving.

Ss someone mentioned before, VW's can be pricey for hookworms, and temperamental.

If you're just looking for a daily driver you should give consider a Camry.

I'll be buying a daily driver in the spring so I can park the dodge ram, but I'm going big. Lincoln or Caddy for me this time.

Idunno, man. In today's world, if a dude buys a Jetta, he's probably gonna get hit on by other dudes. Chicks looking for a real man are probably going to consider him off the table.

In terms of maintenance like oils changes en sech?

Routine maintenance wont break you. The real question is do you have emissions testing requirements in your state? I get a lot of those VW's that come in my shop with the check engine light on. Most of the time it's for catalytic converter. Runs close to 3k to replace in California because its against the law to use aftermarket. But if your state doesn't require testing and you don't mind the CEL on, drive it till the wheels fall off.

Jettas are pretty reliable probably more so than the Civics and Corollas that everyone is buying to use as beaters. Of course that depends on how well maintained they are. Did a quick parts search on rock auto and most of the common parts that I use for other cars are reasonably priced and in some cases less expensive.

That's why I said 3k in California. must be purchased from the dealer here. I drive a 03 Ford Escape and had both rear cats clog up. Can't get those in Cali either so I pulled them off and gutted them out. Runs like a champ and surprisingly enough didn't set my check engine light. I doubt you would get the same results with a VW though.

If you get a Honda go ahead and buy a water pump, timing belt and head gasket. Those are epidemic failures on Hondas. Just did my sons 02 civic...pain in the butt

You're supposed to change the timing belts at 100k. Never had any of the other problems on any hondas we've owned.

His mom bought him that pos starter car with 200K on it. Had a bad head gasket but since I had to take the belt off to pull the head I replaced the water pump and belt anyway. Hondas are reliable if you buy them new and stick to the maintenance schedule but they are nortorious for head gasket leaks...probably because people don't replace the timing belt and it leads to the water pump failing and the engine running hot and warping the head. Lucky for me I have an ex-Honda mechanic buddy that has had to replace so many Honda 1.7 head gaskets that he could do it with his eyes closed.

Found an 01' Corolla with 116,000 on it. They're asking 4K. We'll see what I can get em down to. Thing looks like a little old lady just drove it putzing around town and kept it in the garage. Doesn't even have cruise control.
