There is no 5 yard cushion in college football like the NFL, but contact is still allowed up to the point where the defender is standing. It's only AFTER the receiver passes the defender that contact is not allowed.

There was that one throw late to the right side. Should have been a sure first down, but he threw it at the back peddling guy's knees. I think receiver should have caught it snywsys. But that could have won the game.
